Angela Giuseppe Rancelli was a Catholic priest in Turkia. He surprised his community by reading the Bible in Turkish, in the Christmas sermon of year 1935.

Later (1958-1963), he became the Pope, as His Holliness 23. Johannes.

He was never forgotten in Turkia. A popular street in Istanbul is now named after him.

I offer my early "Merry Christmas" wishes to all christian friends here....in his honor.

I was just glad he said "Merry Christmas" instead of Happy Holidays!  {#emotions_dlg.bigsmile}  You don´t hear that too often any more.

Yes - luckily "Happy Holidays" has not reached the UK yet and we are still free to say "Happy Christmas" at the moment...although I am sure we will be banned from that too soon

I am surprised you regard him so highly... after all, he was ITALIAN and used his time in Turkey to help the Jewish underground saving thousands of jewish refugees.  He also helped get rid of bishops who had collaborated with the Germans during the war lollollol

And all Poles are deeply insulted by your not giving your utmost respect to the Polish pope, Jean Paul II that Ali Ağca was not a huge fan of lol The polish think JPII is the most respectable pope ever and is beloved everywhere around the world lol

Saving Jews from all kinds of shit is Turks´ ´favorite hobby, throughout the history. The to-be-Pope was only instrumental, one a few occassions

Jean Paul II is our all time favorite POPE.

Why do you think Ağca missed?

However the "to be Pope" was Italian, not Turkish and was merely on "duty" in Turkey for a while

Yes!!!  Didn´t you receive your "Welcome to Turkishness" package in the mail?  It would have included a several instruction manuals including, "Responses to insults to Turkishness", "How to fend off Evil Western Women (you would have gotten the female version...."Keeping your Man!"), "Baklava is TURKISH and don´t forget it," and finally, "Everyone is a little Turkish."

I will send you another package if you need it, dear...but don´t loose it again!

I´m having an indentity crisis...

I have a bit of Jew in me, but I wasn´t saved yet... even though I have spend loads of time in Turkey! So I thought, maybe I´m a Turk now...that´s why I´m not being taken to safety... but I haven´t received my "mussaka is Turkish, and gyros is kebab in disguise" package either!

So... what the bleep am I...

I can´t be Western European, since I don´t feel a great hatred towards minarets...
