Thanks to all. I really appreciate it. Just wanted to know further info, since I know a case (were I live) of a man that has 3 wifes. I know how men are (with all the respect), legal or ilegal many have more than one woman in their lives. Since I´ve been thru that experience twice I wanted to make sure that legally htey could have only one wife (ilegaly, well, that´s another story... as many of you said: depends on the man).
As for children, well it would be difficult to me to be separated from one of my children. I have a toddler and you can´t imagine how hard has been for me just to think of the possibility that her father could take her from me. I asked the custody question because I also know of a case of a foreing man that took away the kid from his ex-wife. But I don´t remember what country he was from, neighter if the kid was born in his country or hers (she´s an US citizen). It was a very heartbreaking story...
There´s a spanish saying that says: "Es mejor prevenir que precaver" (It´s better to prevent than to beware). That´s what I´m trying to do. Once again Thanks.

Ptaszek, aren´t you being rude? I think the OP asked these questions BECAUSE she wanted to learn something, and this is what this site is all about (and a good laugh of course). Not everyone is so familiar with international law as you are birdy Do you have extensive knowledge about ALL countries in the world?
I know polygamy is illegal but still practised on a small scale but I have no idea about child custody. I might be mistaken, but I think in Egypt it´s the father of the child that has custody if the mother is not a citizen, I wonder what´s it like in Turkey. Yes, I can google it but I´m too lazy
u are wrong şekerim. I thought u know somethings about turkey after long time.
you can not learn turkey from google or google earth or from Tclass.
There are same rules as in europe.

Sounds like you´ve been reading (or watching) Betty Mahmoody´s ´Not without my daughter´
Polygamy is forbidden in Turkey, it occurs only on very small scale and mainly among Kurdish families. Polygamy actually has never been a feature of Turkish society.
I don´t know about the divorce stuff etc, but why falling for someone who gives you the feeling you might need to know all these? Obviously it´s important to know what you´re getting into and to learn a way out (to prevent is better than to heal), but still.. If you get to know him better you will eventually figure out what kind of person he is and what is thoughts and opinions are on some subjects.
As for citizenship, I may be mistaken but as far as I know a child gets automatically Turkish citizenship if the father is Turkish...

as I know, after divorce mother and father have same rights and they consider all conditions for child´s future.
a few months ago, on the news, a japanese woman won the court and took his son to japan in Urfa or maras. family didnt want to give the child, but police did a operation and took child from them and send to japan with his mother.

When affections are lost between people, it is amazing how people can change and how terribly bitter relations can become. We have many stories of custody wars recently, and only a tiny minority of them are in the Middle East.
Don´t you remember the Elion Gonzales affair?
Then there is the current case:
"SAN ANTONIO — Warrants have been issued for a man accused of using incomplete Mexican court documents and Texas law officers to flee with his 10-year-old son.
Prosecutors in San Antonio on Monday obtained kidnapping and aggravated perjury warrants for 41-year-old Jean Philippe Lacombe.
Lacombe, also charged with interference with child custody, and his son are missing.
Attorneys for Berenice Diaz say she has legal custody of the boy, Jean Paul.
The San Antonio Express-News reports Lacombe on Oct. 15 presented misleading Mexican documents to a judge in San Antonio wrongfully indicating he had custody, not his ex-wife.
Deputy constables removed the boy from a school bus stop on Oct. 16 and returned him to his father.
Diaz attorney Miguel Ortiz says Lacombe, who is from France, is wealthy and could go anywhere with the boy."
Nobody willing and knowingly gets involved with monsters, who can see into the deepest part of the hearts of others? There is a saying, "Trust in Allah and tie your camel"

Could you tell me what exactly I was wrong about? If you referred to child custody, I´m sure you noticed that the country mentioned was Egypt, not Turkey (and that´s something I remember from McGyver where in one of the episodes a mother wanted to get her son to US against the Egyptian partner´s will)

Sorry if I seem to be ignorant. It wasn´t my intention to be disrespectful. I am just asking some stupid questions (yes stupid) because I have been thru a lot in my life. I know it´s logic to look up the info in the net (something I already have done), but I wanted to be oriented by people and not by some google search. I´ve seen lots of things, and no, I don´t know what I was thinking when I posted this in the forum. I guess I´m just very stupid to think I could be oriented in a good way without been made fun off.
Once again SORRY...
No question is stupid if you want to know the answer.
