Major quake rocks Haiti causing damage and casualties

"A 7.3-magnitude earthquake which struck off the coast of Haiti is feared to have killed or injured dozens of people in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Haiti´s envoy to the US said it was a "catastrophe of major proportions".

Buildings, including a hospital, are reported to have collapsed, with streets said to be blocked by rubble.

The quake, which struck about 15km (10 miles) south-west of the capital, was quickly followed by two strong aftershocks of 5.9 and 5.5 magnitude."

Those poor people have had so many probems.  There have been a lot of earthquakes recently. Just few days ago we had a 6.5. one in Northern California.  That was in a not too populated area.  This in Haiti is in densly populated areas and is much worse as they don´t have much infrastructure.

Wow, and it´s a poor country so the aid they need can probably not be provided only by the local government. I hope international help picks up fast. What a horrible way to start the new year.

Yes, it´s truly horrific!  They have so much work to rebuild their country.  They need a massive amount of help.  Many people are trapped under rubble now.

Here is a list of organizations that are helping

I like Oxfam and Doctors without Borders....

In Holland a general bank-account has been opened for Haiti now. This money will go directly to Haiti through different good causes that will all work together there. If you are in Holland, you can send your money to "giro 555, t.n.v. SHO"

I just sent something, and I would like to see everybody on this forum to give a bit to an organization in their own country that can help these poor people.

It is a pity, we take every opportunity to distort some statements in an unnecessary defensive attitude. I am tired of pointing out to how irrelevant many of those are.

For God´s sake, it is an earthquake. It does not have anything to do with Norwegians or Turks. Help if you can and everyone else is invited to do so too.
