Police vehicle bombed in Istanbul
A roadside bomb went off injuring 15 police officers in the shuttle service bus.
08 Haziran 2010 Salı, 11:38:45

A bomb attack on a police vehicle in Istanbul lightly injured 15 people on Tuesday, Turkish police and news reports said.

The roadside bomb went off in the Küçükçekmece district, on the outskirts of the city, as the vehicle was passing. Police officers in the vehicle and a number of passers-by were injured.

Istanbul police chief Hüseyin Çapkın told the state-run Anatolia news agency that none of the injuries was serious. He said police were investigating whether the bomb was exploded by remote control.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Kurdish Workers Party, or PKK, who have carried out similar attacks on police in the past have recently intensified their activities.

PKK’s imprisoned chief Abdullah Öcalan said last week he had abandoned efforts to seek dialogue with Turkey.

Radical leftist and Islamic groups also operate in the city. “There is no information on the culprits for now. We will work to find them,” Çapkın said.

Ok...I have waited patiently all day.  Where is the outrage for this event?  I am fairly sure that in most countries, attacking a policeman is something that people feel very strongly about.  {#emotions_dlg.unsure}

What or whom are you trying to provoke, Elisabeth? Were you expecting to watch another arena while drinking your wine in your safe, warm, comfortable box?

It is an awful attack! I am really sorry for the injured policemen. But Elisabeth, you should understand that Turkey is an interesting country; some Turkish citizens cry after hearing this terrible news like me and some people becomes happier due to injured ones work for Government of Turkey.

It is just something that hits close to my heart.  My brother in law is a policeman in Turkey and it just seems like an issue that demands some kind of social reaction.  At least that is my opinion.

As a general observation, it seems strange that so many people reacted so strongly to threads about the difference between Kurdish/Turkish Culture and Kurds in general but when it comes to threads about the PKK bombing police, there is little or no reaction.  It just makes me wonder....is the anger really toward the PKK where it should be or is there anger about Kurds in general? Just an observation/question from a cultural outsider.  Perhaps it is just coincidental...

 Dear Elisabeth,

As you know, there have been so many awfull things recently inTurkey or related with Turkey. Israel soldiers´ attack and killings on the aid ships in Medirrenian, attack on Turkish soldiers in Hatay and now attack on a bus which carries Turkish Policemen in Istanbul. After witnessing those horrible PKK attacks for so many years my poor Turkish people just became confused and, naturally, sometimes don´t know what to do.

But as a Turkish, I feel that the anger is growing in Turkey everyday, not towards the Kurdish citizen but towards the attackers no matter their origin.

Btw, I have three family members who are policemen.
