He further said that they met Poles whose menu includes mouse barbeque. We tried to tell them that the mice around that part of London are quite poisonous unlike the other ones. This was the worst of all I have ever witnessed having dealt with homeless people for about 30 years now.

I only regret that Brits are so poor at geography.Poland is situated in The CENTRAL EUROPE not East one. Exactly the geographical centre is claimed to be in Lithuania according to the French National Geographical Insitute, anyway I am off to catch some mice, lunch time is coming....

Seriously speaking this article only depicts how pitiful plight of some migrants can be when they are on their own unable to get the job, not having any command of the language, any support or no idea where to seek for aid.

Having lived in Spain or Italy I saw many immigrants including my compatriots fumbling for food in dustbins , waiting for leftovers from the shops or begging in the streets for any kind of donation, not always money. It made me ask the question why they want to stay in such circumstances and what I usually heard was the myth of golden pavements abroad full of any kind of wealth easily obtainable.They did not want to get back to make relatives disappointed with their failure although some charitable organizations or Embassy could facilitate their return. It was easier to maintain the myth and deceive themselves that there will be better days. Remember also si that many unskilled workers went abroad and not always the best flowers of society, on the contrary some of them weeds- not willing to work, used to take advantage of welfare system or others.

In my opinion they got used to living at the margins of society, stuck in a circle of expecting aid from anyone, not being enterpreous, lonely, not being able to deal with new conditions. Shame on representatives of my nation that they behave the way described in the article but what makes me feel good with this article is the fact that only strange survival eating habit is depicted here not acts of robbery or other crimes in order to survive.

I suppose a man will eat anything to survive, isn´t that so? I´m sure Turkish homeless eat only the best kind of kebap, but alas, they´re unique in that. Others would munch on anything faced with death of starvation. Haven´t you heard that during the famine in Ukraine acts of cannibalism were quite common? I think we should be grateful that homeles people resort to rodents or, as a British tabloid has suggested, swans

I have heard during WWI time people used to sift through cow dung to find seeds and edible matter.

I can´t remember the name of the programme but there´s a guy giving tips how to survive in extreme conditions. Apparently being stuck in Africa with nothing to drink, elephant faeces serve as a great source of water if you squeeze them (it was done in the programme).

I haven´t watched it myself but a friend of mine was talking about a similar (Turkish) program where this guy digs the ground to find some wet soil and squeezes it in his handkerchief to get some drops of water.

The thing is that this is made up in order to pinch poor Poles because Poles wont rise to "defend" the image of themselves. If this was said about Muslims, we would have local demonstrations. Even though no Pole starves in London to such extent to eat mice.

Why would I try to defend Poles - I don´t know even one homeless one, let alone a homeless one in London so I wouldn´t know what they eat. Of course tabloids look for sensation and, as millions of Poles flooded the UK, they became the favourite target group of the gutter press which loves making up stories. I have never heard about Poles eating swans or mice in Poland. Why shoud they do it in the country that has a social system so easy to milk that it´s hard to imagine somebody would actually be homeless - that I don´t know. But I guess anything can happen. Would tabloids be able to tell a Polish immigrant from a Czech one? Or a Ukrainian passing for Lithuanian? I doubt it...

And i know Si++ wants to provoke but let´s be honest - I´m not Turkish, I don´t feel the need to defend the Polish pride in the collective national sense. I don´t eat mice, why should I take offence in what he said. Is it possible that some Poles eat mice? I have no idea so I can´t say I´m 100% sure they don´t. Seems better to me than starving.

 Sadly there are several living homeless along with other Eastern Europeans, in Peterbough when they lost their jobs and can´t get benefits.  Some have been living under tarpaulins on a roundabout.  Some of them have been repatriated but others refuse.  They are living in terrible squalid conditions.  Some are living in houses of multiple occupation in dangerous conditions and being taken advantage of by unscrupulous landlords. 

It is a very sad situation.
