I have updated the list above. Most of the words are from Kadir37's source and a few were mentioned by Ayla. If you have more words write them down here and I will add them after checking their origin.

Notice that words like televizyon, portakal, pantolon, müzik etc. are not originally Arabic though they exist in Arabic language.

I'm deleting messages that were added to the list. I like to keep things tidy.

I just found that TDK (Turkish Language Institution) suggests that there are a little more than I expected.

"Arapça 6453 söz var "
"Fransızca 5011 söz var "
"Farsça 1359 söz var "
"İngilizce 573 söz var "
"Latince 91 söz var "
"Almanca 91 söz var "

I'm still shocked to discover that there are over 5000 French words in Turkish. Why didn't our French friends tell us before?

Soon I will be working on French after we have finished Arabic.

A fascinating Turkish word, still in common use in Arabic, is the word "kahveci". In local coffeehouses, you still have to shout " kahveci ! ", to get the waiters' attention.

"Kahve" may be Arabic, but "Kahveci" is so Turkish - I did not come across any other Arabic word ending with "ci".

The same goes for the Bulgarian.Because of the common history we have pleeeenty of Turkish words which makes it so easy for me sometimes because starting to learn a completely new foreign language i speared a lot of time in learning words other than those:
kahve,masa,çeşme,çanta,şapka,kutu,hal,derece,tabiat,demek,acaba,zor,pembe,mor,şaşkın,şenlik v.s. v.s.

No, we don't expect anybody. I don't have time to work on that issue these days. The main source is TDK on this issue and I already gave a link. Some native speakers who have enough time need to browse over 60 pages and copy a list from each page and then put them together and then eliminate uncommon words that are not used anymore or are replaced with words with Turkish origin. Bye.

Well I'm not at all surprised with the French influence on the Turkish words. Actually, if i go through my dictionary I always enjoy to see where the words come from and it showed me that many words come from French. Their spelling has been switched to Turkish, but has kept the French pronounciation in a Turkish way (şezlong - chaise longue).

But I always wonder how they distinguish some words like.. 'enternasyonal'. That could be both from English and French origin, though I'd go for French as it starts with an 'e' (and the french -i- at the start of a word comes quite close to the Turkish -e-).

Interesting list. I'd contribute if I could. Maybe going through my dictionary will be helpful but today I promised mum to help her cleaning the 'library room'.

Greetings ~ OS ~ ,
What we want is to help Turkish learners. If somebody learns Turkish and knows speaks Arabic, then Arabic should help that person in learning Turkish. The question is, "which words can the Arabic speaker us in Turkish safely"?

We are going to find the answer to that question. Since there were many people interested on this subject I have decided to return to work on this issue. We are going to follow these steps:

Step 1. According TDK (Turkish Language Institution, http://www.tdk.org.tr/ ) There are 6453 words in Turkish that are from Arabic origin. We need to get the whole list on a document so we can work on it.

Step 2: We need to eliminate those words that are not used anymore in daily life in Turkish. I will delete all the words an average Turkish person wouldn't understand.
Examples:
badehu
badema
badiye
bağdadi
bahir
bahname

I will leave all the words an average Turk will understand.
Examples:
badire
bahar
baharat
bahis

I thing at the end of this step there will be aroun 2500 words left. There are too many words that have been replaced with words with Turkish origin. Maybe some old people will understand some of these replaced words but we can not include them as they wouldn't be useful for Turkish language learners to use in daily life in Turkia.

Step 3:
Our native Arabic members will check these 2500 words and will confirm that they indeed understand those words. If a native Arabic speaker doesn't understand words like these below we will remove them from the list.

badire
bahar
baharat

Lets say there wi,ll be 2490 words left.

Step 4: Probably TDK will have missed some words. We will ask our native Arabic members to add more words that are not in the list. Of course I will confirm an average Turk will understand them. I will also check the words that have been posted in this thread.
Let's say there will be 2530 words at the end of this step.

Step 5:
I will finalize the list and will post it here. Other Turkish members will check the list and they too will confirm they can understand these words.

Anyway, for now you don't need to do anything. I'm on step two now and when I have cleared the list I will post it here.
Bye
Erdinç

Language is always influenced by other cultures. No language is 100% ethnically "pure" and therefore it is funny to notice that the Turkish language still contains many words of Perso-Arabic origin, inspite of Atatürk´s efforts to "eradicate" them .

E.g.:

- herkes (Farsi)

- siyah (Farsi)

- dünya (Arabic)

- saat (Arabic)

It´s a shame that so many valuable cultural peculiarities have been mutilated or destroyed (scholars, books, the original Ottoman language and its writing, etc.). From 1922 on, people simply were cut off from their ancestors´ writings. One can compare this to the cultural cleansing that has been conducted in China under Mao´s supervision. One person decides what´s "normal" and what´s not. Centuries of culture have simply been destroyed.

According to the list above, " ev" is an arabic origin word which  I don´t agree with.  "ev " is a Turkish word.

EV ---> «özüŋ édgü körteçi seŋ ebiŋe kirteçi [sen iyilik göreceksin evine gireceksin]»

 74. çorba   is Persian [Farsi] , not Arabic.

Fa şōrbā شوربا a.a. § Fa şōr شور 1. tuz, tuzlu, 2. bulanık, karışık + Fa با yemek, aş anlamında bir ek

That´s right tunci. Also the ones given below are not arabic origin. These are the ones i  realised when i read, maybe there are more, it was really boring to read them all.

bayat, amca, bebek, beyin, dayı, evlilik, ev, kırbaç, yas ( Turkish)

çorba, kereviz, keşkek, muşta (persian)

Right, i think it comes from the word "erk" which simply means power.

I think the same , but according to Nişanyan ;

its possible derivation is ;

érk üç yaşına gelen koç +Ak  ● Kaş <? ETü ér- yetişmek, büyümek +Ik  er-

but whatever it is derived of, it is definetely a Turkish word.

Divan-ı lügat it Türk diyor ki;

TDK diyor ki ;

Üç yaşına gelen koçun buyruğu geçiyor demek ki

Ama şimdi düşündüm de, bizde er diye bir sözcük de var. Erkek erk yerine erden geliyordur sanırım .

i was also very discouraged by the script but this site below helped me a lot. I learned all the alphabet, how to write and read from this site:http://www.shariahprogram.ca/Arabic-alphabet.shtml

But just the arabic tutorial is free. For the grammar I have bought the book of Assimil, it has also a cd audio. Also, the youtube arabic tutorials in english help me a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abDMtGPkJIo

It is a long journey, but I like this language a lot.

Arabic is very different than Turkish, in Turkish here suffixes. But in Arabic word changes example: İlim(knowledge), Alim(scholar), Muallim(male teacher), Muallime(female teacher), Alleme, Malum ,Malumat

Haber,Habir, Muhbir

As you can see in Arabic Prefix M letter makes it the one who does it . as er suffix in English. So if here is not foreign word Turkish is very logical so you can make your own words. it is as maths. so that i think must be easy to learn because you do not have to memorize lots of words but if you know root words you can guess others or you can make your own words you must know suffixes

A fascinating Turkish word, still in common use in Arabic, is the word "kahveci". In local coffeehouses, you still have to shout " kahveci ! ", to get the waiters´ attention. "Kahve" may be Arabic, but "Kahveci" is so Turkish - I did not come across any other Arabic word ending with "ci".

kahve is not Turkish word. because a and e can not be together in a word in Turkish original word. ci,cı,cu,cü suffix is as "er" in English. example : Teach  ,Teacher.

Kahveci the one who sells coffee

In Egyptian slang language, the waiter in local coffeeshop is still called Kahveci also still add "ci" ending to some words to mean a profession (but pronounced "gi") as Postacı - Köfteci.
