Istanbul Greek school down to just one student

If 10-year-old Valendi Mihailidis forgets his pen or notebook at home, there is no one at his school he can borrow one from. The fourth-grader is the only student at the Kadıköy Greek Primary School in Istanbul, one of 22 schools in the city serving just 214 pupils.

When asked if he ever gets bored without other students around, Valendi told daily Radikal, “I want to have friends too, but there are also good sides of being alone.”

The number of students in the city’s Greek schools is decreasing day by day, the paper reported Monday. With a total population of Greeks in Turkey of around 3,000, just 10 of Istanbul’s Greek schools have students enrolled, some of them in similar situations to that of Valendi.

Unforgettable impressions from Turkish Kurban Bayramı

November 17, 2010 | 00:12

Celebration of Kurban Bayramı, one of the most famous Islamic feasts, was full of sickening spectacles in Turkie. Despite warnings of the authorities, many Turks butchered cattle in the streets before the eyes of children.

According to Beyazgazete, all the hospitals were full of people injured while butchering cattle. Over 5000 people appealed to doctors in just one day.

ur description of this joyous day reminds me of a funny joke.

a guy was walking in central park, new york, when suddenly he saw a dog attacking a little girl. he ran quickly , killed the dog and saved the girl. a policeman who saw the entire scene addressed him saying:

" you are a hero. tomorrow everybody will read in the newspapers" A BRAVE NEW YORKER SAVES THE LIFE OF A LITTLE GIRL" ....
"but i´m not a new yorker ," the guy responds
...."then we´ll read : A BRAVE AMERICAN SAVES THE LIFE OF A LITTLE GIRL"
...... "but i´m an arab " !!.....""
..then we´ll read:" AN ISLAMIC EXTREMIST MASSACRES A DOG IN FRONT OF THE EYES OF A HORRIFIED LITTLE GIRL."

One thing is to live on a farm and see often a "chicken" as you say, and other thing is to live in a city and see a cow  being murdered..

If a cow is being slaughtered, than so be it. There´s a difference between murder and slaughter. If you tell your children their happy meals is grown on trees, that just isn´t healthy. The picture isn´t the right way to slaughter a cow, so that is bad for the animal, if not necessarily the children. But, we shouldn´t pretend like children should never see a normally slaughtered animal. Some kids these days think meat comes from the factory, and that´s crazy in my opinion!
