I was having a conversation the other day about prejudices that Turkish people might have of Western women. People have told my other half many times that he might as well dump me, since all Western women cheat. The people who have actually met me have (slightly) altered their views, but still. It sucks But I deal with it. Just like I deal with the prejudice that every Turkish man must be a dudu. However, I have this idea that if a Turkish man would be portrayed as a dudu in a Dutch tv-show, all hell would break loose, with ofcourse outcries over racism and moslim-hatred.
Now... somebody told me that there was a Turkish tv-show (aka serial) with a Dutch woman in it. Cloggy as I am, I watched "öyle bir geçer zamanki"... and how disappointing First of all, the Dutch woman on the show isn´t Dutch but German...but okay, it´s acting. Than I found out she was from Amsterdam in the show. Oh well, I guess most foreign people think the whole of Holland consists of Amsterdam. But than she turned out to totally fit the prejudice that most Turkish people have about Western women. She is just a total evil biatch, cheating like a pro! Great image for us cloggies

I know how you feel. The stereotypes of Americans are in so many movies that are seen abroad...even in American movies. It just makes me think that people must be very comfortable in believing stereotypes.
I still know people who insist that my husband´s ultimate plan is to convert me to Islam and drag me to Turkey...Its must be the most complex, mysterious and secretive plan in the history of Turkish duduism because I´m still here after all these years. He hasn´t even tried to kidnap the kids and bring them back to Turkey!

´Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman Ki´ dizisinin ´Caroline´i Wilma Elles, Alman gazetesine konuştu
10 Ocak 2011 Pazartesi, 16:57:05
Translation:
The German Wilma Elles who´s acting in a Turkish serial called "öyle bir geçer zaman ki" says they adore her in Turkie even if she´s not acting the star role in the serial.
She says "8 months ago I was living in Cologne and now I am living in a luxury apartment in İstanbul for which I consider myself to be very lucky". When she´s walking out in the streets, she is immediately noticed by the people around, says she. Many give her gifts and many old people like her after talking to her a little while.

I do not understand why its ratings are so high. i watch it from time to time from youtube but when it is on tv I do not watch it because on internet i can play forward. it has a lot of crying and pure emotional exploitation scenes that last for minutes.

I watched the "Beyaz Show" on Friday night.
Among the guests were the grup "Mavi Işıklar" who we rediscovered through this serial. They mentioned this fact and stated it as "power of the Turkish serials".
During the serial, two songs of "Mavi Işıklar" were used by two student bans of the same high school preparing for a nationwide competition.

Çalışma Bakanı’ndan ilginç istek!
03 Nisan 2011 Pazar, 09:49:58
Çalışma ve Sosyal Güvenlik Bakanı Ömer Dinçer’in yolunu kesen bir grup kadın, Kanal D’de yayınlanan “Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki” dizisinde Caroline’i canlandıran Alman oyuncu Wilma Elles’in ülkesine gönderilmesini istedi.
Hürriyet´in haberine göre, talepleri şaşkınlıkla dinleyen Dinçer, olayla ilgili şunları anlattı:
“Bütün kadınlar Ali Kaptan’ın yuvasını yıktı diye Caroline karakterinden nefret ediyormuş. Beni bizzat arayan, ‘Caroline Türkiye’de izinsiz çalışıyormuş, onu ülkesine gönderin, aile kurtulsun’ diye şikayet mektubu gönderenler var. Ben de ‘Hakikaten kaçak mı çalışıyor’ diye baktırdım. Bunun da aslı yok. Alman sanatçı Wilma Elles, iki yıldır ülkemizde izinli olarak çalışıyor. İnsanlar, bazen gerçek hayatla, diziyi birbirine karıştırabiliyor. Canlandırdığı karakterden öylesine nefret etmişler ki Türkiye’den giderse ailenin kurtulacağını düşünüyorlar.”
Translation:
Some women asked from Ömer Dinçer (labor and social security minister) to send Caroline (Wilma Elles) back to her country saying that she has no work permit.
Caroline depicts an evil bitchy woman in the movie "Öyle bir geçen zaman ki" and Turkish women cannot winthstand her evil ways in that movie.
The minister has said that they have checked out her work permit issue and she has it.
