The legendary name in music,Sir Elton John,will perform in 47 cities and 21 countries as part of his world tour, will meet his Turkish fans on July 5 in Istanbul and July 6 in Ankara. It will be John’s second visit to Turkey in 10 years.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he started his music career with the band Bluesology, which he founded at the age of 15. John has a very special group of fans all around the world with more than 450 million albums and 40 million singles sold since the 1970s.

He has won six Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him number 49 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.

One of the most unforgettable events in his career was the version of “Candle in the Wind,” which he performed in tribute to Princess Diana at her funeral, with new lyrics specially written by Bernie Taupin. The single sold over 33 million copies worldwide.

Sir Elton John will perform in Istanbul’s Maçka Küçükçiftlik Park organized by Map Communication and in Ankara Arena organized by Vokaliz. Tickets will be available soon.

Long-awaited Amy Winehouse

Another world popular singer who will perform in Istanbul this summer is British soul and jazz singer Amy Winehouse. She will perform on June 20 at Maçka Küçükçiftlik Park as part of the promotional tour of her new album.

The 27-year-old Winehouse is the first British singer to win five Grammy Awards including three of the “Big Four,” which are Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. She has been credited as being an influence in the rise in popularity of female musicians and soul music and revitalizing British music.

Her debut album, “Frank” was released in October 2003. The album entered the upper levels of the U.K. album chart in 2004 when it was nominated for at the BRIT Awards in the “British Female Solo Artist” and “British Urban Act” category. The second album “Back to Black” was released in October 2006. It was the best-selling album in the U.K. in 2007, selling 1.85 million copies over the year. It was an international hit, and the song “Rehab” made No. 9 on the U.S. pop charts.

Winehouse has a distinctive style of her own. Her hairstyle has become the model for fashion designers, while her vulnerability, her fragile personality and self-destructive behavior have been regular tabloid news, and a subject of criticism and controversy.
