ikiye katlamak ----> to double

Arsa fiyatları oniki ayda ikiye katladı ----> Land prices doubled in 12 months.

Ev fiyatları on yılda ikiye katladı ---------> House prices double in a decade.

                                              Sallamak

 

to wave ---->  Bana el salladı ---> He/She waved at me

to lie  ----> [slang] Sallıyor yine  ---> He/she is lying again.

to shake ---> Deprem binayı çok kötü salladı ---> The earthquake shook the building badly.

to move  ----> Masayı sallama ----> Dont move [vibrate] the table

to nod ----> Kafasını salladı ------> He/she nodded.

to drive [car] --->[slang] Tüm gün direksiyon sallıyor ---> He is driving all day.

rocking ---> Kendini sallamayı bırak ---> Stop rocking.

swing -----> Kollarını sallıyor -----> He is swinging his arms.

for this case the formula is ;

 - * - =  +   just like the rule in maths, negative multiply negative equals to positive

 Onu sevmiyor değilim ---> I love her/him

Ruh çağırmak ---> [ Literally "to call spirit " ] The act of calling the people´s spirit that are already dead.

müjde vermek - to give good news..

Size bir müjdem var ---> I have a good news for you [ plural ,or polite ].

Müjdeli haber = Good news

Alo Demek --> [Literally " To say Alo " ] that means " to give a quick call."

 

Bu akşam bana bir alo de ---> Give me a quick call tonight.

Eve varınca sana alo diyeceğim --- > I will give you a quick call when I get home.

                                   "Kavuşmak"  in Turkish

The verb " Kavuşmak " has several different meanings in the sentence.

1. to reunite with, to come together

    Sabret, yakında kavuşacağız ---> Be patient, we will come together soon.

    Anne sonunda oğluna kavuştu. ---> The mother finally reunited with her son.

 

2. obtain

   Bu hafta yeni pasaportuma kavuşacağım. ----> I will obtain my new passport this week.

  

3. arrive at

    Uzun bir yolculuktan sonra evime kavuştum. ------> I arrived at home after a long journey.

 

4. to join

    Burası  Sakarya nehrinin denize kavuştuğu noktadır ----> This is the point that river Sakarya joins with sea.

 

5. to reach

     Kavun o kadar büyük ki tuttuğumda ellerim birbirine kavuşmuyor --> The honeymelon is so big that when I hold it my one hand can not touch the other. [ my one hand cant reach the other ]

Kan beynine sıçramak ---> [saying] [Literally " the blood bounces into the brain] that means "become very angry " "see red"

[Senin] Bugün okula gitmediğini duyduğumda kan beynime sıçradı. ----> I got very angry when I heard that you didnt go to the school.

 

[Onun] Benim hakkımda dedikodu yaptığını duyduğumda kan beynime sıçradı. ---> I got very angry when I heard that he/she is gossiping about me.

 Sahip çıkmak --->  to protect,to claim,to adopt,to do something about,to get someone/something under control, to support, to help

 

Kardeşine sahip çık ---->  Protect your brother/sister.

Bu buluşa sahip çıkmaya çalışıyor. --->  He is trying to claim this invention [ claims that it is his invention]

Depremde ailesini kaybetmiş bir çocuğa sahip çıktılar ---> They adopted a child who lost his/her family during the earthquake.

Köpeğine sahip çık ---->  Get your dog under control !

Çocuğuna sahip çık !-----> Do something about that kid of yours !

Yoksullara sahip çıkıyor ---> He/she is helping [supporting] poor people.

Dert etme ---> " Dont let it worry for you " in other words " Dont worry "

Kirayı dert etme ---> Dont worry about the rent. [Dont let it be  a worry for yourself ]

Dert etme , halledeceğiz ---> Dont worry , we will sort it out .

Havaalanında karşılamak --> To welcome somebody at the airport.

Seni yarın havaalanında karşılayacağım ---> I will welcome you at the airport tomorrow.

Havaalanından almak ---> To pick someone up at the airport.

Seni havaalanından kim alacak ---> Who will pick you up at the airport ?

Onu havaalanından Ali alacak ---> Ali will pick her/him up at the airport.

Uçağın saat kaçta kalkıyor ? ---> [ what time your plane take off ?] when is your flight ?

Uçuş bilgilerini alabilir miyim ? ---> Can I have your flight details ?

Gecikme var mı ? -----> Is there any delay ?

Uçak zamanında inecek ---> The plane will land on time.

45 dakika gecikmeli inecek ---> The plane will arrive [land] with 45 minutes delay.
