Quoting elenagabriela

it seems like somebody try to keep distance with you by saying teşekkürler; anyway

teşekkür ederim hocam

I would not say that. If someone said teşekkürler or teşekkür ederim to me instead of sağol, I would be more pleased. Because they are stronger in meaning, they have more feeling. That somebody might have said it with stronger feelings by saying teşekkürler.

Earlier on we had a joke about "keeping distance" by using Teşekkürler. But having more formal effect doesnt give "Teşekkürler " bad reputation of  keeping distance. People can use it just to be more polite or just want to use it for any reason. Its all about personal choise.

Agree ... just think about English. Some people prefer to say "thank you", others "thanks", others "I´m grateful to you". "Ta" is informal. But apart from that, it is personal choice.
