Salamworld, an Islamic social networking website, is set to start its journey from Istanbul.

The website is funded by prominent Muslim businessmen, with over 100,000 people waiting for membership. Based in Istanbul, Salamworld will have working branches in many other cities, including Cairo, London, Moscow, Dubai and New York.

The site will be streamed in 15 languages. The site´s name "Salamworld" means "Hello world," and the motto for the site reads "no politics, no bans, no limits."

Salamworld aims to attract 100 million users by the end of its first three year term, targeting Muslim youth, intellectual leaders and non-Muslims wanting to learn more about Islam.

Aenigma, you can always start a "lazy spongers" social networking site.  You can target evil Brits and waiters...{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}  Spongeworld?

I guess you like the last 2 bits of the motto, but not the first one?

No bans and no limits seems a perfect site for the discussions about dudus and waiters!

My reasons are more specific (and less funny!).  "Salamworld" goes against everything I believe with regard to tolerance and integration of different cultures and religions.  It is rich that the site will originate from a country who have a history of banning headscarves in education establishments.

Imagine the outcry from the muslim community if Mark Zuckerberg had made Facebook a Christian site for Christians and people interested in Christianity!! The proposed new site is elitist, vile and just jumps on the bandwagon of something already created by the "evil west" that they so despise and yet love to emulate.

All religious groups in general make me sick with their intolerance.  When will people realise that their religion is rarely determined by any thought or determination but merely by geography!  You are born in Iran, your parents tell you you´re a muslim;  you´re born in France your parents tell you you´re catholic; you´re born in England....you´re an atheist!!  Hardly any message from God/Allah eh?

I am thinking. Thinking that this is an attempt to protect themselves from the evil influence from the evil others.

However this protection is a complete failure in the perspective of 21st century. People dont want alienation, isolation, they want to share, to communicate. Even the most fundamental islamist googles everyday using tools created by evil others.

Not much added to the topic.
