Radical groups campaign against Turkish series in Serbia

BELGRADE - Anatolia News Agency

Hürriyet photo

Hürriyet photo

A Serbian radical group has launched a campaign against a Turkish TV series that is currently very popular in Serbia, Anatolia news agency reported.

“Nashi 1389” members have been putting up posters around Belgrade to protest Turkish series in general, but most specifically “Muhteşem Yüzyıl” (The Magnificent Century), which the group claims "shows ruler Süleyman as a positive historic personality."

The posters show Süleyman and a national Serbian hero. The captions contain insults against the former while the latter is praised by the movement.

“Nashi 1389” is known to be the current successor to the Chetniks, a nationalistic organization that took part in the killings in Bosnia between 1992 and 1995, as well as in both world wars.

Turkish TV series are now extremely popular in the region.

Yes, so much so that:

Egyptian actress dreams of Turkish actor

Egyptian actress and singer Menna Fadali (L) says she is thinking of getting married Engin Akyürek, the leading actor of Turkish TV series ‘What is Fatmagül’s Fault?’

Egyptian actress and singer Menna Fadali (L) says she is thinking of getting married Engin Akyürek, the leading actor of Turkish TV series ‘What is Fatmagül’s Fault?’

According to Egyptian website al-Bashayer, the young single Egyptian singer and actress Menna Fadali has revealed her aching dream to marry Turkish star Engin Akyürek, otherwise known as Karim to Arab television audiences in the popular Turkish TV series “Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne?” (What is Fatmagül’s Fault).

According to the website, Fadali said while she was not thinking of getting married any time soon, if she were to marry, the Turkish heartthrob would be her cup of tea. She dealt a blow to her male compatriot fans when she added provocatively that she would far rather marry someone Turkish than a fellow Egyptian.

In yet another installment of the love affair between Arabs and Turks, Fadali tried to explain her crush, “I really love the actor who plays the role of Karim on the Turkish series, I dream of him. I feel like he’s from out of this world.”

I think it is still being broadcast. Probably their campaign was not a success.

As far as I know, It is still quite popular in Serbia despite some extreme nationalist´s campaign. I think it is called  " Sulejman Veličanstveni " in Serbia. There is a blog about it; http://sulejmanvelicanstveni.blogspot.com/

Of course it is still broadcasted and still popular in Serbia, and of course extremists campaign was not a success. Was success Turkish extremists´ campaign against this series?

Sorry, Tunci, it is not addressed to you, but to author of this article - I relly don´t get what is the purpose of such news.  To show that there are extremists in Serbia? Is there a county where extremists don´t exist? To remind of Serbs´ taking part in Balkan wars 1990s, as there were not other participants with their extremist organizations? The only purpose I see is to make the image of Serbs as bad as possible, and now when relations between our two counties become better abd better. Obviously, someone is not happy for that.

In my humble opinion, if you can´t do something to make relations between two (countries in this case) better,  don´t do anything to make them worse. And this is what I see in quoted article.

Right!

And I think it shouldn´t have been copy-pasted here at all. I don´t see the point of doing it.

As you said there are exremists everywhere Slavica. Not only In Serbia. I have NO problem with Serbian people. Yes, in the past in 1990´s a group of Serbian butchers performed one of the most cruel massacre against Bosnian Muslims while the whole world just watching. But that was nothing to do with Serbian people. In my opinion all nations are brothers. From the bottom of my heart I wish two countries have better relations.

The article is just stating the extremism. No more.

Instead of defending yourself (or attacking me), you may explain your point in posting it instead.

My post is referred to something for which I put a quotation.

No I can´t see it. But it´s not my problem. By not explaining it, you yourself implicitly admit that there was no point there.

If extremist movements in different countries  -  no matter how worthless we think their opinions are  -  are forbidden topics of discussion it is easier for these groups to get out of hand in democratic countries or countries which are struggling on their way to democracy. This is what happened for instance in Serbia not so long ago.
