"Bir de yıllarca salonda caka sattıktan sonra demode olup basamakları hızla inen,fıstık yeşili perdeler"

i can understand that is about some green curtains which are out of fashion, but i would appreciate a translation word by word.

Here is my attempt as another learner, but you must appreciate some words need to be looked at as a combination, rather than one by one.

Bir de = besides

yıllarca = for years (yıl+lar+ca)

salonda = in the living room (salon+da)

caka sattıktan sonra = after showing off

(caka satmak = to show off)

demode = out of fashion/style

olup = being (out of fashion) and

basamakları = the steps (basamak+lar+ı

hızla inen, = the rapidly falling/descending

olup and inen probably go together. In V1-ip + V2 structure V2 can quite well be a participle. I found an old thread about it, look at post nr 5 especially.

Thanks abla

I must admit that I couldn´t understand the use of olup without a recognisable verb at the end of the sentence. Maybe a native Turk or knowledgeable yabanci can explain the meaning for us. Merak ediyorum. (I´m curious)

I also think it is an elliptic sentence (just like the ones before). The predicate is missing. But olup is in no kind of trouble because its colleague is there.

demode olup basamakları hızla inen,fıstık yeşili perdeler"

The sentence is " eksiltili cümle ´ , the predicate is hidden "var" [ noun clause]

And also [plus] ..............................................there are pistachio colour curtains

Bır  de  ............................................... fıstık yeşili perdeler [var]

"Bir de yıllarca salonda caka sattıktan sonra demode olup basamakları hızla inen,fıstık yeşili perdeler  ------------> SUBJECT

yıllarca salonda caka sattıktan sonra demode olup basamakları hızla inen  ---> Adverbial clause  [ we find Adverbial clause by asking "nasıl perdeler var ? ]

var ----------> PREDICATE

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

demode olup --> become out of fashion

from the context we see that "olmak" is "become"

-up suffix here functions as " and"

became out of fashion and

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

basamakları hızla inen  ---> literally ; that decended the stairs rapidly

                                       [meaning in the context is ; lost its value rapidly [as it used to be in the most important place of the house [in living room]

note that -en aorist tense participle here is used as past tense participle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And also[plus] there are pistachio colour curtains that became out of fashion and lost its value rapidly after showing off itself in the living room for years.
