90 years ago, yesterday, Atatürk was standing on a hill in Dumlupınar (in Western Turkey, about 300 km inland from the sea), watching the invading enemy lines taking position on the plains below.

He raised his sword, pointed at West and shouted one simple order to the Turkish Armies:

"Armies, your first target is the Mediterrenian Sea.....Forward !"

That was it, for the enemy.

Patriotizm is only part of the issue here.

What I admire is the "Simplicity" & "Humanity" of the order.

Notice the order was not "Kill all the invading buggers, we have had enough bulshit from them !"  The requirement was to reach the sea, clearing the land in between as necessary. All the invading buggers had to do to save their lives was to keep out of the way.

They did too !  {#emotions_dlg.satisfied_nod}

I really don´t know what to think of this man Atatürk. The anarchist and troublemaker in me feels like objecting but when you Turks express your sincere love to him it is damn heart touching.

Tell me a few points you find objectionable in Atatürk.

Winston Churchill sure had many complaints and objections. {#emotions_dlg.satisfied_nod}

Your question itself. I can´t get it down my throat. I guess it is a cultural thing.

But I admit I am not well informed and maybe I should read something. Atatürk was not among my contacts but maybe I could add him there.

Atatürk is a national hero. Some thinks he was a dictator and a non-believer. But most of the Turkish people still love him and will love.
