I have a problem with the root ´Oyun´.  Oyun = play [noun]!!

One would infer that ´Oyunmak´ = To play [infinitive] ... but the dictionary lists it as ´OYNAMAK´ [which to me appears as a Reflexive] ... !

Please can a knowledgable person explain what is the diffrence betwee Oyunmak & Oynamak??

Thank you

oyunmak and oyanmak are not proper verbs. (oyanmaq means to wake up in Azerbaijan Turkish, in Turkey Turkish is uyanmak)

I think the verb you are trying to find is "oynamak"

oynamak : to play

oyun oynamak : to play a game

Thank you Umut_Umut .... unfortunately I am DYSLEXIC and often make mistakes .... you are absolutely right .... I meant Oynamak [not OYANMAK] .... I have corrected the error.

In some of the books I have seen sentences like .. ´Coçklar bahçede oyunuyorlar´ [Children are palying in the garden] ....

For this reason I am confused between Oynamak & Oyunmak.  If Oyunmak is not a proper verb, then do we say ... ´Coçuklar bahçede oyun ediyorlar´ ... or do we say ´Coçuklar bahçede oynariyorlar´ ????

Thank you all.

Çocuklar bahçede oynuyorlar. I think there is a spelling error in your book.

Thanks Umut_Umut.  You are right ... it was my dyslexsia confusing me again.  In the sentence it says ... > oyn-uyor-lar > Coçuklar... oynuyorlar, so:-

1) Oyun = Play [Noun]

2) Oynamak = To play [Infinitive]

And it will be conjugated as > Oynarım, Oynuyorum, Oynadım, Oynayacağım, Oynayalim, Oynamam, Oynayabilirim, Oynayamam, Oynayamazdim ..... etc.

´Oyunmak´ does not exist ...  Thanks
