They are very close relatives. They differ in size.

Some saz just for the balance:

I have been listening to Kıvırcık Ali (1968-2011) a lot and I think he died when he was at his best. It is not only his musical talent that impresses me but the personality also. You just have to look at him when he plays: the way his eyes communicate, all the expression on his face. His voice, his beautiful Turkish accent. Mekanı cennet olsun.

An almost ful list of musical instruments in this family

Bağlama, cura, divan sazı, bozuk, çöğür, bulgari, iki telli, tanbura ve meydan sazı,

They generally differ in size and number of strings they have.

This family is believed to have evolved from an antient Turkish instrument called "kopuz".

"bouzuki" is the Greek version.

It will not be long before Greeks claim the whole family is actually a Greek invention.
