How tragic, I see it´s on the World Monuments Fund watch list. What a tragedy its destruction would be. Good luck saving it. We destroyed Penn Station in the early 60´s.

As a person traveling around Turkey giving engineering service to a number of so-called giant industrial facilities, you can have my word for it - it might be a perfectly innocent accident. I was electrocuted, fell from scaffoldings and hurt myself on countless occassions just because some Mr. Mehmet had not done his job properly.

We are the champions of procrastination. You can´t get anything done properly in this country and you must also forget about getting it done in time. That roof might have caught fire just because the whole organization behind it did not care even a bit about the historical value of the building from the very beginning.

I think a dragon attacked the building in darkness. That really makes sense.

Do not rely on Mr. Mehmets´ expertise to provide your full safety.

Make sure of your own safety yourself, before you start your work.

Agree! there are at least 4 AVM building projects on the E5 Asian side at the moment.

We need good public transport, sports facilities (a swimming pool or ice rink anyone??) not more shops.

In item (1) of this thread, I had given -to those interested - the link to a petition asking authorities to leave a precious landmark of İstanbul -Haydarpaşa train station - in its original form and function. My request was that you all sign the petition and inform your friends as well, so that more people could be reached.

Below is a letter from the originator of the petition.

Haydarpaşa´nın Gar Olarak İşlevini Sürdürmesini İsteyen Çok Değerli Dostlar;

Prof. Dr. Zerrin BAYRAKDAR

For those who can not understand Turkish, she informs that the petition has been signed by over 12000 people so far, thanks all participants - and request a second effort from all to increase the number of signature to at least, to 24 000.
