I hope you don´t mind me saying  -  it is just my opinion  -  but there is something typical to Turkish melancholy in the lyrics of this song: representing inanimate things as metaphors of a human being. I have heard it so many times, even in everyday conversations.

Needless to say it hits me like a tidal wave.

It is possible but the meaning is not certain.

the poet does not actually want to be a grave with no owner etc.
the poet is saying all the extreme conditions and ask to her loved one, if i was in such and such condition, would you still love me. i am %99 sure it is "if".

Yes meaning is certain there and abla translated that part with if. But it is not certain for other lines because they don´t have a direct connection with the last two lines.

Thank you for your comment, ikicihan. I thought about that interpretation  -  there is no grammatical objection I guess  -  but in the end I thought only two last lines of each stanza belong together on the basis of their meanings and all the rest carry "keşke" meaning.

You are right about the headline: many singers have this song in their repertoire. But after I listened to Ahmet Kaya I forgot the rest. He is not my favourite usually (he is such an uncle) but he has exactly the right voice for this song.

This song was written by Yusuf Hayaloğlu. He was a great poet. And Ahmet Kaya sang his many songs. His sister was married with Ahmet Kaya. And they were close friends. I think he is one of the biggest actors behind the Ahmet Kaya legend.
