- ARAKTAN - EREKTEN

As we know the -arak [erek] gerundium suffix is used to form gerunds of state that describes the way of actions that is happening or happened.

Likewise , adding - dan [den] onto it will make no difference. Learners might come across this form in their study Turkish.

Verb stem + araktan [erekten]

Gül            +    erekten -----> lerekten   =  [by] smiling

Gülerekten  büroyu  terketti --- >  He/She  left  the office [by] smiling.

--------------------------------------------

Ağla  + y [buffering letter] + araktan  ------>  Ağlayaraktan = [by] crying

Küçük kız ağlayaraktan okula gitti. ---- >  The little girl went to school, crying.

----------------------------------------------

Konuş  + araktan  ----->  Konuşaraktan  =  [by] talking

Parkta eski günleri konuşaraktan yürüyorduk. --> We were walking in the park [by] talking about the old days.

but what about -a..-a/ -a..-e

Küçük çocuk ağlaya ağlaya eve gitti.

Sarhoş adam düşe kalka denize doğru gidiyordu.

Are they different situations? And when we use one and the other..?

but what about -a..-a/ -a..-e

Küçük çocuk ağlaya ağlaya eve gitti.

Sarhoş adam düşe kalka denize doğru gidiyordu.

Yes, this is also gerund of state that gives the same meaning as -Arak, -Araktan gerunds; as in your examples ;

by repeating the same verb stem twice

 a..............................a

Küçük çocuk ağlaya ağlaya eve gitti. ----> The little kid went home ,crying.

And ;

by repeating the opposite verb stems or words.

 note : here  e…………..a     because there are two different verb stems and vowel harmony applies.  ---> düş +e

 Sarhoş adam düşe kalka denize doğru gidiyordu.

Literal meaning is ; The drunken man was going towards to the sea falling and getting up. ---> which means ;

The drunken man was going towards to the sea, struggling [with great difficulty].

* both describes the way of the person´s action.
