Srebrenitsa

Ne güzel baktın bana, ne güzel ne güzel
Görmedim diyar diyar görmedim senden güzel
Sonunu hazırladık emanet ellerle
Katliamlar yaşadın hüzünlü gözlerinde

Seni kurtaramadık hiçbir şey yapamadık
Yüreğim buruk yüreğim hasta
Tam 18 yıl oldu seni unutamadık
Affet bizi Srebrenitsa

Her Temmuz´un 11´i yaralar kan bağlar
Düşündükçe ağlaşır çocuklar ve kadınlar
Bazen canavardır uygarlık denen illet
Çağ dışı kalır bazen insanlık, medeniyet

---------------

Srebrenica

How lovely you looked at me, how beautiful
I have not seen more beautiful place
We prepared your end with trusted hands
You had massacres in your sad eyes

We could not save you, could not do anything
My heart is broken, my heart is ill
we have not forgotten you during  these 18 years
Forgive us Srebrenica

Every 11th of July the scars bleed again
Women and childeren cry as they remember
Sometimes the thing called civilization is a monster
Sometimes humanity becomes old fashined.

You are not responsible for that because you are a Serb. Everyone is responsible only for their own actions.

Why are you ashamed? Are Serbian people responsible for that, or just individuals (politicians)?

You shouldn´t feel that way, we both are Serbs, but we didn´t start that war and made that genocide, that was act of individuals, so we have nothing to be ashamed of. Most of the Serbian people feel sorry about Srebrenica and whole war (which was one big mistake), trust me, so feel proud because we, as nation, and our goverment, looked the truth in its eyes and admited it was mistake and apologized, don´t be ashamed.

All nations are suffering from that stupid war, even today. There were victims on both sides, and ofcourse they can´t be forgotten, but we must stop blaming each other, should apologize to each other and become friends as earlier. I mean, we are neighbours, we have noone closer, we are all so similar...

So that is the biggest shame, we still keep fighting. Let those responsible be punnished, let´s get over that war, and let´s move on and be friends again. Srebrenica and all other war crimes aren´t here to be ashamed of, but they are here to remind us never to listen and get our brains washed by individuals, and never to fight again! May all victims souls rest in peace (no matter what nationality)...

P.S. Sorry for long post {#emotions_dlg.shy}

Thanks for the post. Thanks for Nadya for her bcc documentary link as well.

I think both of you Nemanja and you are right. Yes it was wrong to go to war and now almost everybody is sorry for it. I really appreciate you, as a state come over it and apologised. That is quite important to heal the wounds and also shows a kind of remorse about what is being done. But also, I think blaming the politicians only on this incident is a bit far away from telling the truth. It was all out war and sometimes, during the war times, the masses can get illogical and monstrous. Sometimes the war creates its own logic, blinds people and make people forget their values. They act with sheer instincts of survival and capabale of doing unimaginable things.  We Turks know this from our own history.

But thanks again.

If you want to feel ashamed feel it for being human. It was an awful war but it was governed by the leaders, and put to action by sick individuals.

There was an interesting thing a soldier in Vietnam war said. I don´t know exact phrase he used but it goes that pretty much no soldier is actually capable of killing. So the 90% of them shoot the air and try to miss the target when at battle and the other 10% would kill a person whether he´s a threat to him or not.

There were sick people on both sides. I feel bad for the killings but because person were killed the ethnicity is not a question here.

Saddest part is that we´re pretty much same group of people with just different religions. It´s like three brothers brought up by different parents.
