Traffic fines

Hello all,

I was just wondering how much you might expect to pay in fines if you drove a motorbike without a licence, and got caught speeding without a helmet.

Does it make a difference if you can pay straight away (ie on the spot fines) or do you incur interest if you can´t.

Thanks in advance

Jo

depends are you talking about driving in turkey or somewhere else

traffic fines for turkey in 2013

police can no longer accept immediate payment of traffic fines. Under normal circumstances if you get a fine you can pay it at the PTT or Ziraat Bank. If you pay in cash within 14 days you get a 25% discount.

The lowest fine for a traffic offence will be 62 TL and the highest will be 18,589 TL.

Common offences carry the following fines:

RUNNING A RED LIGHT

If you are caught passing through a red light the fine is 166 TL.

SPEEDING

A fine of 166 TL if you are caught exceeding the speed limit by up to 30 percent. Over that the fine is 343 TL.

DRINK DRIVING

First time 700 TL, second time 877TL for the third time the fine is 1,407 TL.

Thanks. Sorry to be ignorant (I can´t even drive in England, let alone in a foreign country) but is it the same for motorbikes as cars?

you don´t need a helmut in a car

the fine would be different as they bikes have a legal speed limit that is different than cars

but you would have to deal with them the same way.

The either ticket the car or the driver.

 Re the helmet.

Doesn´t matter whether you are speeding or not. It´s not only illegal, but the fine could be you pay with your life.

One hit of your head on the hard tarmac and you´re a gonna! Don´t do something just because there´s a fine if you don´t - do it because you value your own life (or even more importantly the life of your pillion passengers).

There was a terribly sad story in the Turkish news last month about a guy knowcked off his bike and killed because he didn´t have a crash helmet on. Sadly, the ironic thing is he was on the way to pay a fine he´d received a few days earlier for not having a crash helmet on.
