I need to translate this message:

I didn´t have the Islam religion class last week. I was sick, but as it turned out later the teacher was sick too, so I didn´t miss the class anyway.

My biggest struggle is the part marked in red, this one below is only my wild guess:

Geçen hafta İslam dini dersi yoktu. Ben hastaydım ama sonra ortaya çıktığı gibi öğretmen de hastaydı bu yüzden dersi de kaçırmadım.

This way , not literal but more natural  + its better to use -miş as you heard [were told] later that the teacher was sick.

And are there any other ways to translate the English phrase it turns/turned out or you always have to do it in such a "descriptive" way, like "I´ve learned that..."?

sonradan anlaşıldı ki

sonra ortaya çıktı ki

sonra belli oldu ki

you could also use "meğer" instead of "ama sonradan öğrendim ki"

Geç kaldığımı düşündüm meğer öğretmen henüz sınıfa girmemiş.

I thought I was late, but it turns out the teacher hadn´t come into class yet.
