"W’ın kaçırıldığı öğrenen X, kardeşinin emanetiyle, Y’ye verdiği söz arasında sıkışıp kalırken, karakoldan gelen kötü haberle sarsılır."

As a learner, I am having a hard time breaking down this sentence as it is very long and complex... Could anyone help with this?

My try. I hope it makes sense

Mahir, who learnt Nilay had been kidnapped, was shaken with the bad news which had come from the police station, when he was caught between what/who his brother/sister had entrusted him with, and his promise to Feride.

If only google translate worked as well as google search.

Then this site might not get requests to translate poetry, song lyrics, Facebook philosophy, press releases etc.

Here is the google translation for your amusement

Learn Nilay Mahir was kidnapped, with his brother´s safety, Farida trapped between his promise, while the bad news is shaken from the police station.

as opposed to an edited version from Gokuyum.

Mahir, who learnt Nilay had been kidnapped, was shaken with the bad news which had come from the police station, when he was caught between what his brother/sister had entrusted him with, and his promise to Feride.

By the way in Turkish you can entrust someone with another person.I dont know if it is possible in English. That is why I wrote "what/who". I am not completely sure but it is a big possibility that Nilay is the person who Mahir is entrusted with.

Yes, this is also possible in English.

You could say

Mahir is entrusted with taking care of (or looking after) Nilay
