I guess the original by Yılmaz GÜney was:

"biz de bilirdik sevgiliye karanfil almasını,

lakin aç idik yedik karanfil parasını..."

The meaning: "I knew I should have been buying clovers for my darling, but I was hungry. I bought food with clover money."

This is what he is telling, but with a sort of "delikanlı" taste to it ("macho" is the closest word I ca think of). I can´t really translate it. I tell you though, "delikanlı" kind of talk uses first person plural instead of first person singular.

What you´d written, "bizde bilirdik sevgiliye karanfil almayi lakin actik yedi karanfil parasina" means "I knew I should have been buying clovers for my darling, but I was hungry for an amount of money that could buy seven clovers."
