University in Turkey

Hi,

I´m an American girl, but I´m currently dating a Turkish guy. I´m seriously considering going over there for university, and I would live with him while doing it, but I really don´t know anything about the education system.

My concerns:

  • Comparable quality to the education in the U.S.
  • Cost of university
  • Variety of available degrees
  • Type of visa required
  • College life...?

I certainly hadn´t considered going to university in Turkey before I met my boyfriend, but I´m quite an adventurous person and I think the experience of being with him and experiencing the culture in such a way would be very unique.

Any comments appreciated!

Thanks!{#emotions_dlg.bigsmile}

Most of the universities in Turkey are goverment owned and they are free. Also there are other universities you pay for. The best univerties in Turkey are in Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir. In some of these universities education language is English like Boğaziçi university and METU. These are the best universities and they are goverment owned.

Here are the link of universities:

Hi

I want to suggest you some universities.The best universities are Boğaziçi and ODTÜ.Boğaziçi is in Istanbul but ODTÜ (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi) is in Ankara. (capital city) I don´t know your department,if you tell me, i can help you more.But I especially suggest Boğaziçi University.Because Boğaziçi University has got a lot advantages,like campus life,departments,science experiments,sports,arts,searches,students clubs,library etc.I want to go to this university,too. And also Istanbul is bigger than Ankara,because of that reason Istanbul has got more advantage.You can go exhibitions or competitions.I think,you can live in Istanbul,you will like it.If you want to ask some questions or something,you can send a message to me.I will answer them.Also you should check this website for Boğaziçi University.  http://www.boun.edu.tr/en-US/Index

A very difficult question (I have no idea myself). Only somone who attended both a University in both Turkey and US would really know. I´ll bet the quality is there, in Turkey, but likely the real question would be is how the US, (i.e. employers) value it.
