Merhabalar! I have tried to translate another Barış Manço song: "Adem Oğlu Kızgın Fırın Havva Kızı Mercimek." I have marked with red the places where I´m not sure what is going on. I´m sure you will find others.

This is another song where I´m sure there are cultural aspects I don´t fully appreciate. For instance, I know of Ferhat and Şirin (or Hüsrev and Şirin) from reading "My Name Is Red," in which Orhan Pamuk parallels their story with that of Shekure and Black (Şekure ve Kara). But I´m sure you could tell me more.

Here is the song. ... Çok teşekkürler!

Adem Oğlu Kızgın Fırın Havva Kızı Mercimek -- Son Adam Is the Hot Oven and Daughter Eve Is the Lentil

Adem babayla Havva anadan bu yana -- Since Adam the father and Eve the mother,
Çok şeyler söylendi sevda üzerine -- Many things have been said about passionate love.
Sayısız türküler yapıldı Leyla ile Mecnun Ferhat ile Şirin -- Countless Turkish folk songs have been done: Leyla and Mecnun, Ferhat and
Şirin.
Türlü masallar yazıldı Kerem ile Asli Yusuf ile Züleyha gibi -- Various folk tales have been written, like Kerem and Asil, Yusuf and Züleyha

Hepside dertli ayrılıklarla biten ızdırap gözyaşı dolu -- All of them are full of tearful suffering that ends with a woeful parting.
Hani karabasan gibi insanın dünyasını karartan sıkıntılı şeylerdi -- To tell the truth, they were troubling things that darkened man´s world like a nightmare.
Bugün Barış kardeşiniz sizlere yeni bir türkü söyleyecek -- Today
Barış your brother will sing a new folk song for you,
Çünkü Barış gördü ki yeryüzünde en büyük gerçek -- Because
Barış saw the greatest truth on the face of the earth.
Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek -- Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.

Kız dediğin nazlı olur erkek ise mangal yürek -- The woman is delicate, you say. As for the man, he is burning courage.
Er kişinin yanında hatun gerek -- A brave man needs a woman by his side.
Kız dediğin nazlı olur erkek ise mangal yürek --
The woman is delicate, you say. As for the man, he is burning courage.
Er kişinin yanında hatun gerek --
A brave man needs a woman by his side.
Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek --
Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.

Kız olmazsa er kişi kolsuz kanatsız demek -- If there is no woman, it means a man has no arms, no wings.
Davulu dengi dengine vurmak gerek -- It is necessary for each to strike the drum with his equal. (It is necessary for each to be matched with his equal?)
Kız olmazsa er kişi kolsuz kanatsız demek --
If there is no woman, it means a man has no arms, no wings.
Davulu dengi dengine vurmak gerek --
It is necessary for each to strike the drum with his equal.
Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek --
Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.

Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek --
Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.
Mercimek fırın yan yana fazla söze ne gerek -- The lentil and the oven side by side is what faith needs most.
Deli gönül sevdi mi istemez yorgan döşek -- Did the crazy heart love? It doesn´t need a sickbed.
Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek --
Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.

Kimi zeytin peynir yer kimi baklava börek -- Some eat olives and cheese, some eat baklava and
börek.
Kimine saray dar gelir kimine bir oda gerek -- For some a palace becomes narrow, for some only one room is necessary.
İki göz bir kulübe yeter Havva kızına -- Two eyes and a hut are enough for Daughter Eve.
Adem oğlu kalender yiyeceği bir lokma ekmek -- Son Adam is easygoing. His food is a bite of bread.
Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek --
Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.

Tanrı böyle buyurmuş dünya böyle kurulmuş -- God ordered it this way. The world was established this way.
Her Adem oğluna bir Havva nasip olmuş -- To every Son Adam, a Daughter Eve is granted.
Tanrı böyle buyurmuş dünya böyle kurulmuş --
God ordered it this way. The world was established this way.
Her Adem oğluna bir Havva nasip olmuş --
To every Son Adam, a Daughter Eve is granted.
Yedi iklim dört kuşak inanmazsan gitte bak -- The seven climes and the four zones, if you don´t believe, go and look!
Nuh´un gemisinde bile fırın mercimek dolmuş -- Even Noah´s ship was full of ovens and lentils.
Adem oğlu kızgın fırın Havva kızı mercimek --
Son Adam is the hot oven and daughter Eve is the lentil.

Kızdır nazdır binazı nazdır -- ???
Oğlan yoktur her evde yoktur -- There is no youth in every home.

There is a saying in Turkish: Mercimeği fırına vermek. I guess this saying inspired Barış and he wrote this song. This saying means "the two lovers secretly devoloped their love".

Teşekkür ederim, gokuyum. Bazı sorular sana sorabilir miyim?

1) Mercimek fırın yan yana fazla söze ne gerek -- The lentil and the oven side by side is what faith needs most.

My first question is sort of an elementary one, but I have long been confused about "fazla." In the dictionary, it is defined as "too much, too many." But I have also been taught that "daha fazla" means "much more." But then there is also "daha çok." Is there a difference between them? ... And then in this line from the song, "fazla" seems to mean "most." But why would you not say "en fazla" or "en çok." ... What I really need is a good lesson on all of this. If there is one here, please point me to it.

2) Deli gönül sevdi mi istemez yorgan döşek -- When the crazy heart love, it doesn´t needblanket and bed.

Can you explain where you get "when" in this line? Is "mi" not a question particle here? I am confused.

3) Kızdır nazdır bin altın azdır -- She is a girl, she is delicate. A thousand gold coins is little. Oğlan oktur her evde yoktur -- The youth is an arrow. There isn´t one in every house.

Okay, I have given these lines another try. Thank you for correcting the lines of Turkish themselves. It is very difficult sometimes to find accurate versions of lyrics on the Web. And my ear is not good enough yet to always hear exactly what Barış is singing. ... I guess Barış is saying that you shouldn´t take your mate for granted? Each one is precious and hard to come by?

Tekrar teşekkürler!

First of all translation is not correct. I didnt notice it. The translation must be like this: "The lentil and oven is side by side. There is no need for more words." I will search for a lesson for fazla.

Mi is a question particle but here it has "when" meaning.
