Quoting GulBahar

Selamlar...

I wonder why is -iken suffix is used and not -iğinde?

Tesekkurler

its because "while

while flying it  ---> kullanırken

if it was kullandığında ---> when you/he/she flies [it]

Tecnically correct. But there is problem with degree of importance in verb order. The sentence is formed of  1 main + 2 subordinate sentence.

And the order of degree of importance in terms of actions should be as follows :

1.Uçak düştü. ---> Plane crashed  Main action/the most important action/ so it should be located in the end.

2. Kalp krizi geçirdi ---> He[pilot] had an heart attack  subordinate action / the second important action / so it should be located just before the most important action.

3. Kullanırken ---> while using [flying] it  subordinate action / the third important action

so it should be located before the second important action.
