Is this correct what I said? If not, can someone please correct me?

"Sorry if I made you guys worry about omer. Hastalanmak is  very strong word, and I didn´t know this. I should have just said he caught a cold. But while talking with you I forgot how to say soğuk alginligi.  My turkish is still improving you know, so sometimes I´m mixing my words and forgetting them. But he´s better now, he was only a lttle sick for one day. 

In my opinion this should be like this:

Ömerin hakkında, sizi rahatsız hissederseniz, özür dilerim. Hastalanmak çok güçlü bir kelimedir, ama bunu bilmedim. Sadece "soğuk alginligi" soylemiş olmaliydim.  Ama, seninle konuşunca soğuk alginligi nasil söylemeyi unuttum. Turkçem hala ilerliyor, biliyorsunuz. Bazen kelimemleri karışıp unuturum. Ama geçti, sadece bir gündür biraz hasta hissetmiş.

Thank you but i´m not a native Turkish speacher. I´m sure it would be more accurate by one of the administrators or another native Turkish speacher.

It´s okay, your turkish is relatively good though,  for a non native speaker.  The only correction I could make from your translation was the part where you said "bunu bilmedim" turks generally say "bilmiyordum" like to say, "I wasn´t knowing", but it means the same as "i didn´t know" I learned that from one of my turkish friends. But other then that all your other corrections were helpful. =)

Oh and also another tip, 

the part where I connected my sentence by saying "sen söyle" it´s like a saying in turkish that kinda means in English, "like, we´ll, you know.." for example you want to connect a sentence with a sentence, in natural everyday talk you can something like "dün bakkala gidiyordum sen söyle, karşıma köpek çıktı." 0

Türkçem hala ilerliyor, sen söyle, bazen kelimemleri karıştırıyorum.  So in this sentence it means "my turkish is still improving (you know) I´m sometimes mixing my words up.

Question, I´m trying to understand yani ending the sentence and what that meant? I thought yani is usually at the beginning of a sentence?

Also, I didn´t understand the ´dür´ in bir gündür. Would bir gün have been OK too?

I think the last word should be hissetmişti?

I will try to explain the dır/dir/dur/dür suffix added after ´time duration´ nouns.

It gives the English meaning ´for´ and is only used for a period, and where the action is continuing and there is not a specific start point.

Beş aydır Türkçe öğreniyorum.

I´ve been learning Turkish for 5 months (and the learning continues)

I was taught that when an action has stopped (or for future actions) you don´t use ´dir´, you should use ´boyunca´

Geçen yıl üç ay boyunca Japonca öğrendim.

Last year I learned Japanese for 3 months. (But I have stopped learning now)

Salıdan beri hastayım.

Since Tuesday I´m sick. (and the sickness continues)

Günlerdir hastayım.

I´ve been sick for days. (and the sickness continues)

Beş gün boyunca hastaydım.

I was sick for five days. (and I´m now better)

Ömer bir gün boyunca hastaydı.

Omer was sick for 1 day.

Sadece bir gün boyunca hasta oldu.

He was sick for only 1 day.

Sadece bir gün boyunca hasta olmuştu.

He had been sick for only 1 day.

In my opinion the use of gündür was wrong by aristeidism because the sickness has passed. If you only used ´bir gün´, I think the message would be understood by Turks, but I guess it would be better grammatically to have boyunca in the sentence.

Otherwise if you only wrote - 

Ömer bir gün hasta oldu.

it would mean in English -  Omer one day was sick

You can guess the meaning, but it sounds wrong.

Literally --> I am sorry if I made you worry about Ömer´s situation.
