Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım

Merhabalar! I have tried to translate another poem by Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu: "Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım." I think this one is especially interesting because both Barış Manço and Fikret Kızılok created songs using its words. And their songs are very different, I think. In fact, I can´t decide which one I like better. I have included links for both, so tell me what you think. And please correct my translation. I had trouble especially with the fifth quatrain -- for instance, "derince." Is that the adjective (a little deep) or is it a verb form (while collecting). In the end, I just had to guess. More Turkish ambiguity. Wink

Oh, I also think that it is interesting that neither Barış nor Fikret used all the quatrains. They both used only the first, second and final quatrains. I wonder what that is about.

İşte çevirim:

Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım -- I am on a long and narrow road.
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.
Bilmiyorum Ne Haldeyim -- I do not know what condition I am in.
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.

Dünyaya Geldiğim Anda -- When I came into the world,
Yürüdüm Aynı Zamanda -- I walked at the same time. (I died at the same time?)
İki Kapılı Bir Handa -- In an inn with two doors.
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.

Uykuda Dahi Yürüyom -- Even in sleep I am making haste.
Kalmaya Sebep Arıyom -- I look for a reason not to stay.
Gidenleri Hep Görüyom -- I always see those who go.
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.

Kırk Dokuz Yıl Bu Yollarda -- On these roads for forty-nine years.
Ovada Dağda Çöllerde -- On the plain, on the mountain, in the wilderness.
Düşmüşüm Gurbet Ellerde -- It seems I have ended up far from my homeland.
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.

Düşünülürse Derince -- If, when collecting, he is thought of,
Uzak Görünür Görünce -- If, when seen, he appears to be far away ...
Bir Yol Dakka Miktarınca -- One road in the space of a minute.
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.

Şaşar Veysel İş Bu Hale -- Veysel is astonished at this state of affairs,
Kah Ağlaya Kahi Güle -- Sometimes crying, sometimes laughing.
Yetişmek İçin Menzile -- To a halting place in order to be in time,
Gidiyorum Gündüz Gece -- I am going day and night.
