Merhabalar! I have made another attempt at translating a song. This time it is "Ahmet Beyin Ceketi." I am sure you will see that I have made a few guesses here. For example, I am never quite sure about "ya." And I think there are some Turkish expressions that I may not have gotten quite right. As always, I appreciate your comments and help. ... Teşekkürler!

Tanrı bütün kullara rızkını dağıtırken -- While God distributed his daily bread to all of mankind,
Kimi sırtüstü yatar kimi boşta gezerken -- While some lay supine and some lived without working,
Kul Ahmet erken kalkar haydi ya nasip derdi -- Man Ahmet got up early. Come on, it is God´s will, he said.
Kimseler anlamazdı ya nasip ne demekti -- No one would understand what "God´s will" meant.

O mahallede herkes gömlek giyerdi -- In that neighborhood, everyone would wear a shirt.
Bizim kul Ahmet bir gün bir ceket diktirdi diktirir ya -- Our man Ahmet one day had a jacket sewn. Has it sewn!
Mahalleye dert oldu kul Ahmet´in ceketi -- Man Ahmet´s jacket became a worry to the neighborhood.

Kul Ahmet erken kalkar haydi ya nasip derdi -- Man Ahmet got up early. Come on, it is God´s will, he said.
Kimseler anlamazdı ya nasip ne demekti -- No one would understand what "God´s will" meant.
Herkes gömlek giyerken Ahmet ceket giyerdi -- While everyone would wear a shirt, Ahmet would wear a jacket.
Konu komşuya dert oldu kul Ahmet´in ceketi --The matter became a worry to the neighbors, man Ahmet´s jacket.

Mahalleli kahvede muhabbet peşindeyken -- While people of the neighborhood were in search of a friendly chat at the coffeehouse,
Leylekler laklak edip peynir gemisi yüklerken -- While storks chattered and cheese ships embarked,
Kul Ahmet erken yatar sabaha ya kısmet derdi -- Man Ahmet went to bed early. I´ll make it to morning, if fortune wills it, he said.
Kimseler anlamazdı ya kısmet ne demekti -- No one would understand what "fortune" meant.

Herkes gömlek giye dursun -- Let everyone remain wearing a shirt.
Bizim kul Ahmet ceketine bir de astarla kaplatıverdi kaplatır ya -- Our man Ahmet moreover had his jacket given a lining. Given a lining!
Konu komşuya dert oldu kul Ahmet´in ceketi -- The matter became a worry to the neighbors, man Ahmet´s jacket.
Herkes gömlek giyerdi -- Everyone would wear a shirt.
Konu komşuya dert oldu kul Ahmet´in ceketi -- The matter became a worry to the neighbors, man Ahmet´s jacket.

Bir gün bir yoksul öldü üzüldü mahalleli -- One day a poor man died. The people of the neighborhood were sad.
Ama bir kefen parası bulamadı mahalleli -- But the people could not find the money for a shroud.
Kul Ahmet dedi yalan dünya çıkardı ceketini -- Man Ahmet said this life is fleeting and took off his jacket.
Örttü garibin üstüne kaldırdı cenazeyi -- He covered the poor one. The funeral was held.

Sonunda herkes anladı ya nasip ya kısmeti -- Finally everyone understood "God´s will" and "fortune."
Bizim kul Ahmet birdenbire oluverdi Ahmet bey -- Our man Ahmet suddenly became Ahmet Bey.
Ceket ise Ahmet beyin ceketi -- As for the jacket, Ahmet Bey´s jacket,
İbreti alem oldu Ahmet beyin ceketi -- It became a lesson for all, Ahmet Bey´s jacket.
Sonunda herkes anladı ya nasip ya kısmeti -- Finally everyone understood "God´s will" and "fortune."
İbreti alem oldu Ahmet beyin ceketi -- Ahmet Bey´s jacket became a lesson for all.
Meğerse tüm keramet ceketteymiş be Ahmet -- It seems that all the miracles that God acts through a person were in that jacket of Ahmet´s.
Barış a sorar isen sen bu yolda devam et -- If you ask Barış, continue on this path.
