I was wondering if all food in Turkey is 100% halal? 

Do they slaughter the animals islamically? Do they recite besmele (bismillah) before slaughter?

Also, do they hand-slaughter or machine-slaughter the chickens? 

I would appreciate any help...

Dear Ginger, if there are a 100 ways to slaughter an animal, then there are a 100 ways animals are slaughtered in Turkey. Also fortunately (at least for me) there is bacon and booze everywhere. It´s a free country.

I dont know if everyone slaughter the animals Islamically but you can be sure that you can not easily find any product including pig meat or fat. 

I dont think bacons are made of pigs here

And the wine is probably not made of grapes either...

There are pork shops in any city in the south and west of Turkey and you can find domuz eti in any large supermarket. Just a few isles past the strong liquor. 

unfortunatily there are some large markets that sell pork or bacon but other way, meals are halal in turkey. 

How can you be so sure Only from the "ingredients" there is no guarantee.

And about "helal" meat; there are many associations and foundations about this standarts for Islam. There are many companies which cannot get helal certificate for their products. Even though this is not about pork meat, but also there are other Islam standarts to be "helal" for a meat products.

So you should be following the market, researching. In Turkey, probably (90%) there is no problem about the meat and chicken. But there is no easy answer for this.

i know what you mean, it is about how cut an animal, said bismillah? , all rules did? but there are many companies that have halal certificate.

An increasing amount of meat sold in the UK is halal due to the increasing muslim population. Traditional UK abattoirs require stunning prior to slaughter but this requirement is relaxed for some halal abattoirs. Some halal meat is pre stunned. Also some halal meat is imported.

It´s so funny where this is going. Nobody is asking why Gingerganj wanted to know this. 

I´m happy to say that in Holland also it is possible to buy ´halal´ food in many supermarkets and there are also many islamic butcheries. Because, like Turkey, I live in a free country and anyone should be able to eat what they want. (Unless it is your neighbours´ children.)  

But even if the package says ´halal´, we don´t know by which standard it is halal. I didn´t even know there was a standard. 

I think it is a really interesting question because maybe it means all the halal food in my country isn´t even hallal at all! 

Anyway I´m just curious why Gingerganj wanted to know. Maybe he/she is planning to visit Turkey and is wondering if she/he can sit down in any restaurant, or should ask for the halalness first? 

The original question was hand-slaughter or machine-slaughter and the reason is as follows:

in the world, there is a difference of opinion amongst some Muslim scholars and Halal certifiers as to what is “Halal”. Some advocate that all meat + chicken is Halal as long as you say “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah) before eating. Some consider machine slaughter Halal – under certain conditions and others will only accept hand slaughter as being genuinely Halal.

There are strong viewpoints and detailed arguments presented on both sides of the machine and hand slaughter debate amongst Islamic scholars. Some argue that machine slaughter is completely lawful (Halal), whereas others argue that the process is completely unacceptable and the animal slaughtered in this process is unlawful (Haram). Amongst all the differing opinions, hand slaughter is the universal slaughter method accepted by all scholars, which leaves no doubt in the halal status of hand slaughtered chickens.

Machine-slaughter is a relatively new phenomenon created by the rapid progress in modern technology and the need to feed ever-growing populations. Globally Halal machine slaughtered birds are accepted in many countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia and Iran.

Caution dictates that hand slaughter should be given preference over mechanical slaughter for Muslims. However, it is important to recognise that while a Muslim can observe personal preferences and choices for their own preferred methods of hand or machine slaughter, they cannot enforce their own preference upon other Muslims, nor should they denounce others.

oh come on! we do not speak about religions! we speak about halal food in TURKEY! please do understand that and stop speaking about religions!
