Hello everyone,

I am creating this topic for anyone who is interested in translating short stories from English to Turkish. I am going to be translating free to use stories (acquired from the Project Gutenberg website https://www.gutenberg.org) from English to Turkish in order to practice my Turkish skills. I will be posting new threads in this topic as I translate more stories.

Everyone is free to join me in my adventure. Let´s help each other learn Turkish!

I ask all Turkish learners and native speakers of the Turkish language to help each other correct each other´s mistakes.

THE STONES OF FIVE COLORS AND THE EMPRESS JOKWA.

Beş renkli taşlar ve imparatoriçe Jokwa.

AN OLD CHINESE STORY.

Eski bir çin hikayesi

Long, long ago there lived a great Chinese Empress who succeeded her brother the Emperor Fuki.

It was the age of giants, and the Empress Jokwa was twenty-five feet high, nearly as tall as her brother.

O dönem, dev çağıymış. İmparatoriçe Jokwa´nın boyu 7.5 metreymiş, neredeyse abisi kadar uzunmuş.

She was a wonderful woman, and an able ruler.

There is an interesting story of how she mended a part of the broken heavens and one of the terrestrial pillars which upheld the sky, both of which were damaged during a rebellion raised by one of King Fuki´s subjects.

The rebel´s name was Kokai.

İsyancının adı Kokai imiş.

He was twenty-six feet high.

Boyu 8 metreymiş.

His body was entirely covered with hair, and his face was as black as iron.

He was a wizard and a very terrible character indeed.

When the Emperor Fuki died Jokwa, the dead Emperor´s sister, mounted the throne.

İmparator Fuki öldüğünde Jokwa, ölmüş imparatorun kız kardeşi tahtı ele geçirmiş.

Kokai was so angry at being thwarted in his desire that he raised a revolt.

His first act was to employ the Water Devil, who caused a great flood.

This swamped the poor people out of their homes. When the Empress Jokwa saw the plight of her subjects, and knew it was Kokai´s fault, she declared war against him.

Bu, zavallı insanları evlerinden çıkarmış. İmparatoriçe Jokwa vatandaşlarının kötü durumunu görüp buna Kokai´nin sebep olduğunu öğrenince, ona savaş açmış.

O, müthiş bir...

Jokwas, müthiş bir...

* we rarely use the pronoun "o" instead of the name of a person, and in some cases it is considered as disrespectful

Jokwa´nın, her ikisi de, Kral Fuki´nin halkından bir asinin çıkardığı isyan sırasında zarar gören; kırık gök parçası ile gökyüzünü tutan yeryüzündeki sütunlardan birisini nasıl onardığını anlatan ilginç bir öykü vardır.
