Last time I was in Turkia I only managed to travel by dolmus twice and both times it was excellent. On one occasion we caught the same dolmus as many schoolchildren and, I found out later, that the children sat behind us were taking pictures of my hair with their phones lol

When I am in Turkia next week (YaY - only one week to go - *BouNCe*) I want to use the dolmus a bit more. So want to understand as much as I can about travelling on them.

First of all, how do you find out if a dolmus goes to where you want to end up? Are there standard dolmus timetables and do they show connections between different routes?

Can you flag a dolmus down anywhere on route or do they only stop at identified stops? What about when you want to get off, can you stop them anywhere on their route?

i love travelling by dolmus and my experience is you just put your hand out and they stop and pick you up.You can also stop anywhere on route just say inicek var. There appears to be a set price for each route and if you go into a bus station all the buses are clearly marked with there route and also the price is shown inside each bus.Enjoy your holiday next week and happy dolmus travel.

So if I wanted to travel from Turunç to Hisarönu by dolmus - how could I find how to get there as there is not a direct dolmus route. The dolmus from Turunç goes through Içmeler and then into Marmaris.

Would the only way to find out be to travel to Marmaris and check all the route boards from there or is there an easier way to find out? Is it certain to be possible?

We are going to Hisarönü tomorrow and we often use the local bus company (Ortaca) to go to Marmaris,Kalkan,Kaş etc. The service is very good and very cheap. You would need to take dolmuş from Turunç to Marmaris autogar then bus to Fethiye then dolmuş to Hisarönü. Marmaris to Fethiye takes about 3 hours with a few stops on the way.

WoW!!!

We want to go there to go to the Aurora - a lokanta on the bay at Selimiye. We drove there last time we were in Turkia but of course that means one of us cannot enjoy a drink. So we wanted to get there by dolmus/bus

Do you know the Aurora???

How frequent are the buses and how late do they return to Marmaris?

I'm sorry Bod I don't know the Aurora or Selimiye bay. Hisarönü ıs inland from the sea. The buses are every hour but I am not sure about the last one.I don't think it would not be very late.

Then I am not sure we are talking about the same place :-S
I am talking about a town only a short way north of Bozburun - is that the same place?

Bod, re travelling to Hisarönü. I think you might be mistaken but if you want to go there you can get the dolmus to marmaris and then the dolmus from the same autogar you arrive at to hisarönü. It is not expensive about 2.5 YTL and the last one leaves about 1830.Take a tip from me and allow time at the autogar for lunch at the restaurant behind it. It is used mainly by local people and is excellent. Also take a trip to Orhaniye too using the same dolmus (it is the next stop more or less from Hisarönü) and is worth it even if just to see the camels walking on water ) Have a great holiday

So I don't need to catch a bus then - it can be dolmus all the way (any idea how long it takes?)......I will certainly check out that place for dinner - any idea what it is called as I seem to remember quite alot of food outlets around the dolmus station in Marmaris :-S

You don't have to catch the bus at all and we will have a car for the second week we are there and as it is an auto I will drive.
