I read that birthdays aren't that much celebrated in Turkey.

In Holland they are a pretty big deal.. children get loads of gifts, children's parties are being organised, birthday-cards are being send from all the family.. etc..

Also, there are special birthdays in Holland. 16 is a special one, as it allows you to go out, to drink alcohol, to get your scooter-license.. 18 is the official date for not being a child anymore etc.. and then we have 21, which is the date for mature independence (something like that).

In Türkiye, do they have special ages like that too? Is 21 one of them?

What do they do on birthdays? From my Turkish neighbours I remember that the girls didn't really get presents but that they got a new dress and that there was a huge barbecue in the garden with all their friends and family.

Not matter of men or women,i guess they don't give birthdays same attentions as other celebratations

So from here i don't think they have special age celebration too

But maybe a Türkler would correct me on that

Turkish people don't really celebrate there birthdays..i remeber when my family and me sent a birthday card to my cousins boyfriend in January and he was so shocked to see the card, it was like he had never seen one like it before he still has that card now..

I also send a bday card to Mehmet, but since his bday was in february, he thought the card was for new year's day, and was terribly delayed! I think he still doesn't understand that it was for his bday

from this i understand your knowledge about turkey .... lets say you know 30 % so far do not crtisize whole the country with the people you know. I do celebrate and people around me celebrate birthdays too . we like giving and receing gifts .
Special age must be 18" you can get a driving licence and can go to the bars! can even smoke and drink! oh yes also can get married ) shit who cares marriage ....... some people care

I recently celebrated my birthday with my man in turkey. He was so suprised at my cards having money in them and even took pictures to show his friends. I did get a fuss made of me but not until after the official tme i was born!
But i feel really lucky!!
My boyfriend and friend organised a special birthday cake and gave me gifts, sparkly cocktails and a hangover was had by all!!! And i had a turkish cookery lesson and made sarma(stuffed vine leaves) all afternoon whilst drinking beer!
Yes not as much is made of this celebration in Turkey, but hey being with my boyfriend was more important for me this year!!!!

isn't each new day as a b/f,so why we don't clebrate everyday like a birthday?
