Dearest Ms and Mr Dalkiç,

With this letter I would like to thank you for the warmly, hospitable reception and the delicious food in your house on 25 July 2006. It was nice to meet you all! Unfortunately it’s not easy to converse because I don’t speak Turkish. But hopefully that problem will be solved very soon because I will start with Turkish lessons. Because of that language obstacle I didn’t have the chance to speak normally with you all. But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t want to say something. And that’s the reason why I wanted to write a letter. In that way I can tell you more about my thoughts and can I say what I still would like to say.

First of all I want to say that you have 4 beautiful children. Each one of them is so unique on his own way. Especially your daughters, they appear to be so similar in their looks as their mother. They radiate happiness and cheerful. It really attached me to be received so hospitable and warm. Together eating gives a feeling of sociability and put onto a conversation. I look forward to get to know you and your children better. And you are all welcome in our house in Belgium!

I want to tell you first something about my family. I’m the oldest of 3 children. I have one brother Massimo 12 years and one sister Felice 14 years old. They both go to school. (Children are obliged by the Belgian law to go to school till the age of 18.) My parents are self-employed. My mother had a grocer for 19 years, but she stopped now. Now she’s working for a non governmental organisation for an orphans house in India. But most of the time she’s housewife. My father is an electrician and plumber.
I’m studying theology at University. With that study I can do a lot of professions, but I don’t know yet what I prefer to do.

My family and I met Mahmut in Melas Hotel. The way it all started was very funny! My mum, sister and I were looking for a nickname for each waiter. Then we realized that we hadn’t yet a nickname for Mahmut. When we were searching we saw his nice, good looking and modern shoes. And also Mahmut’s elegant movements with those nice black shoes. We found it funny and asked him which shoe size he had. And so we started a conversation. And one thing leads to another…

It was nice to see how Mahmut and my parents get on well and how he laughs with my brother and sister. Amazing how he plays and interacts with the smallest and bigger children. He couldn’t withstand to push either me, my brother or my sister into the swimming pool. You may be very proud at your son! The fact that he is also invited by other families from foreign countries proves that he has a special power inside of him. He is fascinated by people, passionate by life and want to search his own way in this life. And last but not least is the fact that he doesn’t smoke or drinks a fact that I can truly admire.

During our family vacation I had a beautiful and unforgettable time with your lovely son. He even took our family to the waterfalls in Manavgat. I will do everything so when Mahmut visits Belgium he will also have an unforgettable time. I never thought I would fell in love with a boy in another country, with another culture, with another language,… But more than ever I realise that nothing can be an obstacle for love, even not the language!
