| Description: |
Göreme Open-Air Museum - Snake Church (Yilanlı Kilise)
The Snake Church has a long nave with a low, barrel-vaulted ceiling. Among the frescoes are portraits of St. Theodore and St. George slaying the dragon (it looks like a snake, for which the chapel is named). There are also frescoes of Emperor Constantine and his mother St. Helena, and St. Onuphrius, an Egyptian hermit who lived near Thebes. The church dates to the 11th century.
