Perge - Mosaic
Perge - Mosaic
The antique town Perge lies about 18 km east of Antalya. Founded around 1000 BC the former harbor town was settled by Greek and Persians but reached most prosperity under roman reign in 1. and 2. Century AD .
The way to the town leads firstly through reclicts of a Roman gate facility and 2 round towers from Hellenistic time behind it. They build the beginning of the 20 m wide column road which leads from south to north. The column road is surrounded by arcades on both sides whose floors are partially decorated with mosaics, very well preserved.
