Yesterday was my birthday and I got this message from a friend...I'm not sure what it says

word by word this msg can be translated as "you was born good my lover,I miss you"...I don't know if this a way to wish "happy birthday"in turkish...I wish you happy anniversary too,best regards kali

well, I dont think dostum means "my lover".. it really means "friend" a good-close friend ..I might be wrong, but this is the way it was taught to me by my turkish friends

yes definitely "dostum" means "close friend, mate, buddy"

isnt happy birthday-- same as happy the day you were born? I mean if we translate it word by word..:

"Happy birtday" word by word translation to turkish is "Mutlu doğum-günleri" that is not used in turkish. instead used "iyiki doğdun" .
"iyiki doğdun" word by word translation to english is "it's good(fortunate) that you were born" .
of course you can choose second one its correct too.
