How to Obtain Citizenship in Turkey

Foreigners who want to obtain a citizenship in Turkey, may fulfill the qualifications of the Turkish Citizenship Law by the Council of Ministers of Turkey. You may read below all of the following qualifications described by law;

1) Applicant should be older than 18 age or through his legal elders.

2) Have been resident for five years without interruption in Turkey. You should stay in Turkey every year minimum 180 days and for 5 years continuously.

3) Proving documents of residence purpose in Turkey; you may check below purposes which meets your situation:

- To acquire immovable property in Turkey

- To establish a business in Turkey

- To invest in Turkey

- To move to the commercial activities or businesses to Turkey

- To work in an office with a work permit in Turkey

- To marry with a Turkish citizen - It should be noted that,  you do not obtain citizenship directly to marry a Turkish citizen. Foreigners who are married with a Turkish citizen at least 3 years and marriage continued, apply to acquire Turkish citizenship. For this, these terms are searched the applicant;

- To be mother, father, brother or having children who had previously obtained a Turkish citizenship

- Having completed education in Turkey

4) The absence of an infectious disease

5) To have a sense of responsibility and good morals in terms of society, be reliable. To not have bad habits.

6) Being able to speak Turkish sufficient

7) To have sufficient income and a profession that will provide for the dependents of himself, his family and other people

8) To not disrupt the national security and public order

9) If necessary; Ministry may ask the emergence of their citizenship that the person making the application

The files examined and mutual interviews (face to face) to be identified by commission that the applicant which carries all of the above conditions. If the Commission´s decision positive, the file sent to the Ministry. If decision negative, the file sent to the governor.

Required Documents:

- Application form

- Passport or equivalent document

- Birth certificate or identity register copy

- Marital status certificate

- If have first or second degree Turkish citizen relatives, identity register copy of these people from taken Mernis system

- Health insurance (from Ministry of Health)

- Proving the income or profession in Turkey, work permit, tax certificate, written contract or similar document

- Certificate for showing the dates of arrival and departure to Turkey (from Provincial Security Directorate)

- Residence permit that will continue throughout citizenship process

- If there is a finalized court order about applicant, he should bring one copy of this document

- Receipt of service fee
