Adverbial clauses express the relationships of cause, effect, space, time, condition... In English they are often introduced by words like "after, before, until, while, because, since, as, so that, in order that, if, unless, whether, though, although, even though, where..." Example: I write a shopping list before going to the supermarket. Turkish doesn't have these words. They are replaced by standard word constructions derived from the verb in the subordinate clause. Example: Süpermarkete gitmeden önce bir alışveriş listesi yazarım. NOTE: an important distinction between noun clauses and adverbial clauses is the fact that the subject of the latter doesn’t get the genitive suffix. Example:
(Biz) tanıştığımız gün çok güldük => the day/when we met we laughed a lot (we laughed a lot then => adverbial clause)
(Bizim) tanıştığımız günü hatırlıyorum => I remember the day we met (I remember it => noun clause)
