GENITIVE AND MODIFIED NOUNS

 Modified Nouns :

The second noun  is modified or specified by the first one. The first noun doesn’t change but the second takes (s) 4.

Modified Nouns examples :

 If the first noun is a material neither the words take any  suffixe :

Demir kapı: Iron door,  ipek gömlek: silk shirt.

But if the second noun is specified by the fist one and it is not acting as an adjective then it takes (s)4. İf the vowel ending then needs s as  a buffer.

Bahçe kapısı: the door of any garden (indefinite)

In case we have more than one syllable for the second noun  : last vowel changes:

k     softens as      ğ  or  p   softens as     b  ;  t     softens as    d       ç    becomes      c

matematik kitap                 matematik kitabı

yemek tabak                     yemek tabağı

Ömür yoğurt                      Ömür yoğurdu

elma ağaç                         elma ağacı

 If the second noun is one syllable , the  k, p, t  don’t change.

Tenis top                 Tenis topu      

Koyun sütü,     kuzu eti,  yumurta akı, kadın saçı

Genitive examples: First noun  is definite and takes also (n) 4n second noun  is related to first one or belongs to it. Second noun takes always (s) 4.

Ahmet’in arabası : -----(n)4n        ------------(s)4

(n) 4n parts  is called genitive

Ahmet’s car.

Bahçenin kapısı: the door of the garden (definite) or a definite  garden’s door.(definite)

Onun elbisesinin rengi beyaz: the colour of her dress is white .

compound nouns in the  chain : arabanın kapısının rengi beyaz: the coulour of the car´s door is white.

Bu tatlı kaşığı pis: This dessert spoon is dirty

Bir ev kapısı satın almak istiyorum. I want to buy a house door.
