You would easily understand the difference through prononciation though. Hala has ´short a´ and hâlâ has ´long a´, with also a more of a ´double l´ (because of the â.  

hala olmak = to become an aunt

Maybe it´s a typo and should be ´hala oldun´ since the m and n are next to each other on both keyboard of pc and on sms. Then it would mean: You became an aunt!

You can check if this meaning is correct if the one who got the message knows the parents through the father of the baby

 I mean I did it because I was bored Its not that the message bores me It seemed genuine to me but that is ofcourse for you to decide.
