Quoting yilgun-2010

Teşekkür ederiz, Sn.Faruk arkadaş...

Şöyle bir nokta var :

-Turkish : “Cahil ile dost olma, ilim bilmez, irfan bilmez, söz bilmez, sonra üzülürsün.”

- English:

Could  we say it like this in English?

“ Do not be friend with the ignorant, because they cannot know the science, they cannot know the wisdom – comprehension-, they cannot know the word – remark, promise, understanding, ethical value -  then you feel sad.”

P.S.

Ignorant means in this text, a person who is uncultured-uneducated- ,  disrespectful, shoddy and evil minded .

Actually, no. Because Şeyh Edebali is saying this sentence to Osman Bey. If he becomes friend with the ignorant, he will not know any wisdom. They are already ignorant. He is advicing him not to be one of them.

Hand Ceremony

.............As an expression that your hearts are joined together in love - will you please face each other and hold hands, so you may feel the gift that you are to one another.
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

El tutma töreni (We don´t do it in our weddings, so it might not be its translation, but it is good)

Quoting Suzie

Normally you only get one stem with three flowers on it.  Your mum has done really well.  She must have green fingers!

Do you say "green fingers" in turkish when someone is good at gardening or is there another phase you would use?

We don´t say "green fingers", but it could be bahçıvanlıkta iyi(good at gardening), bahçıvanlıkta usta(a master in gardening).

Normalde bir daldan sadece üç çiçek alırsın. Annen çok iyi başarmış. Bahçıvanlıkta usta olmalı.

Quoting Sweet_Paradise

I love this song by Ibrahim Tatlises but dont know the english, any help?

-Bir taş attım pencereye-
-I threw a stone to the window-

Bir taş attım pencereye tık dedi

I threw a stone to the window, it clicked
Anası çıktı kızım evde yok dedi vay vay

Her mom got out and said my daughter is not home wow wow

 İnanmazsan gel yukarı bak dedi
Come upstairs and look, if you don´t believe, she said
Armutu dalda kız balkonda sallanır vay vay

Pear swings at its twig, and the girl at the balcony wow wow
Şeker yemiş dudakları ballanır vay vay
She´s eaten candy, her lips are sweetening like honey wow wow
Atalım mı arap kızı atalım mı vay vay

Should we(I) shoot, Arabian girl, should we(I) shoot? wow wow
Senin için onbeş sene yatalım mı vay vay

Should we(I) stay in prison for fifteen years wow wow
Rakıyı da şaraba katalım mı vay vay
Should we(I) add raki to wine? wow wow

Demirciler demir döğer ocakta

Blacksmiths forge iron at workshop
Şimdiki kızlar ne hoş olur kucakta vay vay-2
The girls of today are so nice on the lap
Öpüşürken yemek yandı ocakta
The meal has burned on the oven while kissing
Armutu dalda kız balkonda sallanır vay vay

Pear swings at its twig, and the girl at the balcony wow wow
Şeker yemiş dudakları ballanır vay vay
She´s eaten candy, her lips are sweetening like honey wow wow
Atalım mı arap kızı atalım mı vay vay

Should we(I) shoot, Arabian girl, should we(I) shoot? wow wow
Senin için onbeş sene yatalım mı vay vay

Should we(I) stay in prison for fifteen years wow wow
Rakıyı da şaraba katalım mı vay vay
Should we(I) add raki to wine? wow wow

Demirciler demir döğer tunç olur

Blacksmiths forge iron, it becomes bronze
Altın yüzük parmağıma güç vay vay-2

The golden ring is hard on my finger wow wow
Sevip sevip ayrılması geç olur
It is late to leave after loving and loving
Armutu dalda kız balkonda sallanır vay vay

Pear swings at its twig, and the girl at the balcony wow wow
Şeker yemiş dudakları ballanır vay vay
She´s eaten candy, her lips are sweetening like honey wow wow
Atalım mı arap kızı atalım mı vay vay

Should we(I) shoot, Arabian girl, should we(I) shoot? wow wow
Senin için onbeş sene yatalım mı vay vay

Should we(I) stay in prison for fifteen years wow wow
Rakıyı da şaraba katalım mı vay vay
Should we(I) add raki to wine? wow wow

"bu soğuk havada ne güzel gidiyor dimi (değil mi), dinleyin içiniz ısınsın"

It suits well in this cold weather, isn´t it? Listen to it and you will be warmed up.
