paylaşmak means 'to share', and the -arak ending means 'by doing something', so i think the whole sentence means 'by sharing the same house with you'.
*** edicem - is this a popular form of edeceğim from etmek?
- yes i think this is right.

Thread: Where can I find Turkish White Cheese in London???
755. |
15 Apr 2006 Sat 02:05 pm |
Quoting Tiny:
Your best bet is to make a trip to North London as you won't be disappointed. There are several areas with a large Turkish community but the biggest one is in Haringey along Green Lanes, N8 which isn't far from me. Honestly you will not believe it if you do visit. You will think you've arrived in Turkey! About 99% of this stretch is Turkish owned be it restaurants, cafes, grocers, butchers even opticians and curtain shops! I have an English friend who lives nearby and her parents are from Manchester and they love visiting her as they feel they are on holiday in Turkey! The sights, sounds and smells are all Turkish. I think this is unique in the UK. You will find any kind of Turkish produce your heart desires. As far as the Feta cheese goes this mustn't be confused with the Greek feta which is quite different to the Turkish one.
Anyway pay a visit and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. As mentioned in another post some of these shops are actually the size of a small supermarket with everything from meat, diary, savoury and sweet available. You will even find the good old Efes beer!
If travelling by Tube the nearest station is Turnpike Lane on the Piccadilly line, alternatively there is an overground train station at Haringey.
Good luck and let me know should you need more info/advice. |
ooh i was staying at my boyfriends house in Haringey the other month and i know what you mean about all the shops, i couldnt believe it! my boyfriend had told me about it beforehand but i thought he meant a few shops here and there, it was a wonderful suprise to drive down all the roads and see almost every shop was turkish, believe me i spent a lot of money on resturants, gifts etc. i wanna go back now!

Inanmadığınız bir faldan niye korkasın ki = 'why are you afraid of a fortune that you don't believe in?'. im not sure what the 'a' means, but if it was 'you can be afraid' it would be 'korkabilirsin' i think.
Gelişmem için tecrübe kazanmam şart - 'i have to get experience in order to develop.' yes the 'şart' means have to, in this case i guess the literal translation is 'my aquiring of experience is necessary'.
Baş ağrısı deyip geçmeyin - not sure what this means but Baş ağrısı means headache.

yalan - lie
Elimde saç tokan
Güneş misali mis kokan
Bıraktığın tek parçan
Bir de kocaman bir yalan
hair in my hands
smells like the sun
the one thing you left
and also a massive lie
Affedilmek istemedin
Nefretimi bekledin
Seni senden başka
Kimse, kimse, kimse affedemez
you didnt want to be forgiven
you waited for me to hate
nobody other than you
nobody, nobody can forgive
Bazı şeyler için
İyi olmak yetmiyormuş
Sevilmek için, aşk için
İyi olmak yetmiyormuş
for some things
it isnt enough to be good
in order to be loved, in order to love
it isnt enough to be good
Aşk biraz palavradır
Biraz da aşna, aşna fişna
Biraz da yalandandır
Sevmek birisini ömür boyu
love is a bit of nonsense
and also a bit.....(?)
and a bit of a pretence too
to love someone a lifetime
Platonik olma, değmez ona, yazık sana
Aslında hepsi yalan, yalan dolan, herşey yalan
Aşk sevmek değil yalan, yalan dolan her şey, yalan, yalan dolan
Aşk sevmek değil yalan, yalan dolan her şey, yalan, yalan dolan
dont be platonic, shes not valuable, its a shame for you
actually all of it is a lie, full of lies, everything is a lie
a lie is not love, everything is full of lies, lie, full of lies
a lie is not love, everything is full of lies, lie, full of lies
---
there you go...dont beleive the lyrics...love is love..!!!

Quoting bod: In this thread Erdinç wrote "birkaç yeni başlık açmak istiyorum. Şimdi pratik yapmak çok kolay. Sen Türkçe öğrenmek istiyor musun?" which I have been attempting to translate. It doesn't seem appropriate to post my attempts in that thread so I have started a new thread.
I am far from certain that I have the translations right and have several questions about this!
birkaç yeni başlık açmak istiyorum
"I want to open some new threads"
If I have got this right, why is it başlık and not başlıklar as it is plural?
Şimdi pratik yapmak çok kolay
"Now practice is very easy"
Sen Türkçe öğrenmek istiyor musun?
"Do you want to learn Turkish?"
Am I somewhere close??? |
yes they are all right, number 1 says 'i want to open a few new threads', and baslik doesnt need to be plural because 'birkac' - a few - already shows its plural.

03 Jan 2006 Tue 06:41 pm |
Quoting bod: Quoting miss_ceyda: maybe u mean, "geldim" ??
which can mean either "i came" or "im coming" |
Are you sure???
geldim (first person past tense of verb to come) would translate as "I came" or "I was coming"
Surely "I'm coming" would be present continuous tense
"geliyorum" |
sometimes if turkish people are coming straight away they said 'geldim' instead of 'geliyorum', and also for example if they are late coming they say 'gec geldim' = i came late.

i must admit i also love the shock factor, turkish people in england just dont expect you to talk it! i remember when me and my boyfriend and another turkish man were sat in a resturant and my boyfriend called 'askim' so i replied, and this other turkish man said 'you understand that?!', so i said 'tabii, aptal degilim turkce biliyorum' and his face was such a picture! of course i then had to explain i only know a little bit cos he suddenly started talking away in turkish to me

Quoting mltm: ok I found what's takeaway.
It says: hazır yemek satan dükkan. that's a shop that sells ready food but it's too long, we don't have a special name for that, so maybe it would be better if I used it as just "shop"? |
shop, resturant, anywhere is fine as long as it sells food! although a motorway trailer resturant thingie wouldnt be much use lol.

"There was a man. He worked in my local take-away. Me and my friends went in there all the time, and each time i began to notice this boy more and more. I began to think about him when i was at home, at school, all the time. I wanted to see this boy a lot so i went into his take-away just to look at him. Then i became determined to make this boy notice me, so i started to learn turkish. Nothing hard, just simple words. One day i walked into his shop, and said these turkish words to him. Then i began to worry he would think i was crazy so i tried to stay away, but found it too hard and was back again a few days later. Then, on a day i will never forget, i told this man what i thought about him and when he said he liked me too it was the best moment of my life. Since then i have fallen in love with this man, he has changed my life and i wish with all my heart i will be with him forever. I love you".
Thank you very much to anyone who can translate this, i know its a bit long but i thought my boyfriend would like it. One day when my turkish is a lot lot better i will give something back and hope to translate myself!!!!
thanks again xxxx
