I would just like to say a massive ´teşekkür ederim´ to EVERYONE involved in making these classes happen.  I am enjoying them sooooo much.

I have been coming on this site for quite a while and trying to learn on my own but felt that I was getting nowhere.  It is really helpful to me to have some structure to my learning and to have weekly homeworks as it helps me to focus on the lessons.

Again, I say ´thank you´

You´re welcome Angelina from me. There are many people though who are involved in this to make this project possible, they offer their help and time to teach us Turkish, they are our heros.

If I could add something too ... it is so hard to keep motivated when learning a new language.... because of the structure of lessons and the deadlines set for completing your homework, this keeps me completely motivated to complete the homeworks set (on time) and the entire 10 weeks course. I would feel. should I not complete it, like I am letting my teacher and all the other teachers down as if it was not for all their hard work, this would not be possible....sooooooooBIG THANKS FROM JO XXXXX

I am attempting my homework for Section 3 on Demonstative Pronouns.  I understand what I have to do but I´m a bit confused about when to use şu and when to use o.  The same goes for  şunlar and onlar.  As ´şu´ and ´o´ both mean ´that´ how do I know which one to use???? 

Can someone explain the difference please and give some examples if possible.

This is easy maybe that because seems confusing.
you can say in english:

This is a car
That is a car
These are cars
Those are cars

same in turkish:

Bu bir araba.
Şu bir araba.
O bir araba.
Bunlar arabalar.
Şunlar arabalar.
Onlar arabalar.

Gençturk, I once learned that şu means ´that´ for something you can see but cannot touch and o means ´that´ for something you cannot see and cannot touch. Is that a correct difference for both times ´that´ between şu and o?

Ex.: Like in ´that car I parked opposite of the street´ and ´that car I have left in Ankara (while being in Istanbul´.

I don´t know if o is necessarily something you can´t see. My book says it´s just a lot further away than şu would be eg-a tree on the horizon would be ´o´

you can see the "O"
I will give you a simple example:

-Ali, Şu kalem senin mi?     Ali, is That pen yours?
-Bu mu?                           is this one?
-Hayır, O değil, Şu.              No, not that, that one.


Basic differents between "O" and "Şu" you cannot use "Şu" or "Bu" for something you couldnt see. You should use "O" for something you couldnt see. I hope it helps.
