well yes the majority of Turkey are muslims but being a Roman Catholic will not be a problem as muslims accept other religions too.
Ankara...I wouldn't know what it's like living in this part of Turkey but some friends of mine live their and they seem to have a comfortable life.
Also Turkish language can be hard for some because it is slightly backwards to English...For example: I love you = seni seviyorum...but 'seni' = you and 'seviyorum' = I love. but also as a single word 'sen' = you...but ya sen? = and you? and so on. Hence you need to learn vowel harmony first.
Anyway it really depends on how quickly you mind adjusts to different languages...some people find it easy and others difficult.

Actually, Turks are very accepting when it comes to other religions. Besides, in their own faith (islam) it says that for them to be a muslim, they first have to accept the ones that came before them (moses, jesus) so they don't have a problem. Even the famous St. Sophia Church (the one on wheels) is being shared by both Christian and Muslims. On Sundays it's Christian, on fridays, it's muslim.
As far as city life goes, I've found it to be "very" similar to NYC. Especially big cities like Istanbul and Ankara. Lively, and friendly people. Of course it helps to have a few freinds who speak Turkish along as well. ^_^
I'd say don't worry, and just enjoy yourself. Also, the cost of living back when I was living there (7 yrs ago) wasn't that bad. I remember living in a luxurious neighborhood and paying only 150 million Turkish liras for rent. Which is less than $150 .. but that was back then, however, I don't think it's gone up TOO much. Still it's better than what I'm paying here in U.S I'm sure, I pay $1500 for a 3 bedroom house.

I dont think so. This must be only the statistics about the identity card. I know many people who have muslim identity but they say that they are atheist.
By the way, you are a foreigner, and Turkish people love and care foreigners much more than Turks, I think.
It is sure that it depends on your behaviour. If you are a "crazy boy", sure, noone will be ok because of this. Don't worry, many Turks seem conservative, but they are not racist.

As all other friends wrote, your religion is not a problem. I am living in Ankara as well. The most luxury apt is around 1000-1500 usd but average is 500-750 usd/month. For instance I am living in a triplex in the most secure and elite district of Ankara which is called Çankaya and pay 1100 usd/month.
Ankara was elected as one of the best capitals of Europe in recent years and green as well(12m2 green/person) it is the only capital where there is no traffic jam. The 2nd biggest mall of the world is under construction and still the best mall of Europe 2004 is in Ankara.. many many other things.. u will enjoy. Please contact me if u have a question or help...
