Quoting Elisabeth:

I am an American of Irish and Italian decent. On both sides of my families I have heard many expressions or words of wisdom, especially from my Grandmother. She was from Italy and her favorite thing to say was, "You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear". This meant that you can't change someone if they are bad..they will always be bad. My husband is Turkish and he has shared some expressions from his culture. For example, when we got married someone in his family wished us to grow old sleeping on the same pillow. He told me that was a wish for us to grow old together. (I can't remember how to say it in Turkish) :-S What kinds of expressions you all have? What do they mean?

You mean

Bir yastıkta kocayın. I love that saying, it sounds so sweet!
