Hi all,
I was chatting with my girlfriend last night and was shocked to see the price of documents she would need to come to the United Kingdom for a holiday a visa and a passport were very expensive and then her flight ticket I was quite amazed how expensive it really is to leave Turkey.

That's not good to hear!! Hopefully in the future if/when Turkey joins the EU the cost and the hassle for Turkish citizens travelling abroad will be reduced. Maybe you should collect donations from the members of this forum to cover the cost of your girlfriend's travel

not only the costs are a problem, also the loads of forms to fill in, the demands to get a visa. if you compare that with travelling the other way around - just 10 euro and nothing else - it is not fair!

I know! That's what I meant when I said before that I hope that the hassle for Turkish people wanting to travel would be reduced. I couldn't believe when I heard how many forms there were to fill in and various visits to be made to different offices .. and all this just to go on holiday :-S

What's so special about England?

The economy
But, actually, it is hard for Turksih citizens to go anywhere within the EU. What I am not sure of is whether the restrictions are imposed by the EU countries' governments or the Turkish one. However, I opt for the latter as even before Poland was in the EU, we didn't have such problems travelling. So, probably the Turkish government love their citizens so much that they are reluctant to let them go...
