Hi all,
I have been bewildered by many phone shops giving me contrasting information about mobile phones I will explain what I need. I want to get my girlfriend a new mobile phone sometime for her in Istanbul, I live in the United Kingdom and so far have been told that firstly I cannot buy one from certain shops as the network suppliers who sponsor the phone example 02, Orange, Vodaphone, Virgin and so on and I cannot take it to Turkey what rubbbish. I then went to another shop and was told that even if the phone is unlocked it might not work in Turkey. I am totally confused about this, I thought it would be simple to buy a phone unlocked and sim-free so she can use her sim-card in Turkey. Please if there is any mobile phone experts about or someone who has similar situation then reply thankyou

It doesnt matter as long as it is unlocked.

There may be less chance of it working if you have unlocked a phone whcih was on the network "3" though..

All other unlocked phones are fine

Just go to a reputable mobile shop. I have it setup that both my turkcell sim card and my cingular simcard both work in Turkey, USA and the rest of Europe. So I know it can be done fairly easily. The only question is how much are you willing to pay for the added coverage.
